Chapter 4
Several hours later, Kara emerged from the kitchen wearing blue and
green plaid pajama pants with a blue tank top carrying a steaming bowl of
chicken noodle soup. She set the bowl on the coffee table and ran back
into the kitchen for her bottle of mineral water. She sat down on the couch
cross-legged and flipped on the telvision. It was almost time for her
mother's show to come on. Since her father had left, she had gone onto
AOL and done some research on Hanson. She learned that their names
were: Clarke Isaac, Jordan Taylor, and Zachary Walker. But Clarke liked
to be called Isaac or Ike and he played the guitar. Jordan liked to be
called Taylor or Tay and he played the keyboards. Zachary just went by
Zac an he played the drums. Kara was surprised to find that her and
Taylor shared the same birthday and they both were born in Jenks,
Oklahoma. A small suburb in Tulsa. Kara slowly ate her soup and finally
the *!SuperStarz!* logo came on the screen. She watched as her mom
reported all the new gossip. Suddenly she saw Hanson in the studio and
they began playing "MMMBop". Kara nearly choked on a piece of
chicken. She saw Walker Hanson standing offstage next to...her father?!?!
On the other side of Walker, she saw a tall woman with long blonde hair
holding a young boy. Sitting on the floor, were 2 little girls. Kara retraced
her memory and remembered reading that Ike, Tay, and Zac had 3
younger siblings. 'The boy must be Mackenzie. And those 2 little girls must
be Jessica and Avery, their 2 sisters. The woman must be their mom,
Diana.' Kara concluded. She turned up the volume and listened to the
harmonious voices of the 3 brothers. 'Wow. They are SO good.' Kara
though to herself. The show ended with them and she hit the "off" buttong
on the remote. She finished her soup and was still humming the song
when her mom got home.
"Hello dear." her mother said and gave her a quick hug. "How'd I do?
Weren't those Hanson brothers just adorable?"
"You did fine mom. Yeah, the Hanson brothers are cool." Kara assured
her.
"Your father told me about how you met Walker and everything. We are
having dinner with the Hansons on Friday. Isn't that exciting? Walker told
the boys about you. Now they can't wait to meet you."
"Great! I can't wait. Dad said you had something important to tell me."
"Oh. Yes. You might want to sit down. Well, you know your Aunt Cindy
and Uncle Randy? Well, they are going to get a divorce."
"What?!?!? That's.....weird. I thought they were like the perfect couple."
"So did I. Well, it is a VERY bitter divorce and you know how your cousin's
Carrie and Mark are right in the middle. Well, your aunt asked me if we
could have Carrie and Mark as our guests for the summer, while her and
Randy worked out their differences. I, of course, said yes because it can
be very traumatizing for children to experience that kind of thing. Thewy
won't be here until Saturday. Just thought I'd warn you."
Kara looked at her mother in shock. Too many exciting events had
happened in one day, but she managed to say. "Yeah, I guess. Carrie and
Mark are cool. But, I'm tired so I'm gonna go to bed. -K-?"
"Yes. Goodnight Kara." She kissed her goodnight and Kara trudged up the
stairs to bed.
