1999 AFL Draw

DID YOU KNOW?

In 1998, history was made in that for the first time in VFL/AFL history,
the following occured for two seasons in a row:

- The same team won the Grand Final (Adelaide Crows)
- The same player won the Norm Smith medal for best on ground in that game (Andrew McLeod)
- The same player won the Brownlow Medal (Robert Harvey)
- The same player won the Coleman Medal for the most goals scored in a season (Tony Lockett)

It will be a LONG time before that occurs again...

Classic AFL Marks

Our game is blessed with players who are capable of performing the seemingly impossible by defying gravity and taking high flying marks.  The following are a collection of the absolute classics.

If you are looking for a picture of any of the great marks, either present day or the past, please let us know as we have many, many more...

clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Jeff Farmer (Melbourne Demons) took this amazing grab against Richmond in 1998 - a win that earned the Demons a place in the finals.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Winston Abraham (North Melbourne) catapulted himself over his Port Adelaide Power opponent in a match in 1998 at Manuka Oval, Canberra.  This mark earned him 1998 AFL Mark of the Year.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Superstar Gary Ablett was capable of some amazing feats, none moreso than his ability to take a high mark.   This one over Collingwood full back Gary Pert in 1994 at the MCG.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Frankston's Richard Stubbs gains incredible height to take this screamer in a VFL match against Springvale in 1997.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Peter Bosustow from Carlton stood on Geelong's John Mossop in round 18, 1981.  John Mossop, incidently, is 6 foot 10 inches tall.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) One from the past - John Dugdale of North Melbourne launches himself over St Kilda's Ray McHugh from St Kilda in round 18, 1961.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Hawthorn champion Dermott Brereton has this one totally under control in a match against Melbourne at Waverley Park.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Nathan Buckley of Collingwood takes this picture perfect effort against North Melbourne in round 1, 1997.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) The 1994 Grand Final was a shocker for Geelong fans, with the only real highlight for them coming from this huge grab by Billy Brownless over West Coast Eagles player Ashley McIntosh.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Stephen Silvagni of Carlton over Craig Starcevich of Collingwood in round 14, 1988.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) You can't get much higher than this. Denis Banks of Collingwood against Footscray in round 10, 1984.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) This is the only known photo of Shaun Smith's "mark of the year" against Brisbane in round 22, 1995.   Congratulations to the amateur photographer in the crowd who managed to snap this one.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) An image that will be with AFL forever.  Alex Jesaulenko takes a purler over Graeme Jenkin of Collingwood in the 1970 Grand Final.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) Richmond superstar Michael Roach took this screamer over Hawthorn's Kelvin Moore and Chris Mew in round 5, 1979.
clickspin.gif (9808 bytes) No classic marks collection would be complete without a snap from the greatest leaper of all, the well respected Trevor Barker.
