And, after many years of collecting, I finally have all the Asterix The Gaul books!! Yeh me!! *L* I've read Asterix since I was little, but of course didn't get half of the jokes then. And all the names! Goscinny and Uderzo were brilliant (as well as the English translators) to think of them all. Here's just a sample:
Anticlimax - Asterix's cousin
Justforkix - Vitalstatistic's nephew
Nervus Illnus - a Roman
Fulliautomatix - village ironmonger
Another comic I love is Calvin and Hobbes. Here's this great little boy, who holds father elections, daydreams constantly, and has one of my favourite animals as a best friend. How could you go wrong? Wish I could be Calvin - or Bill Watterson. The statements and observations he comes up with are brilliant.
And then there is Archie. I can't say how many years I collected Archie comics, but I'v ended up with nearly 400 of them. Hopefully some will be worth money some day.
Who else is there? Well, you can't go past the Dog, the Grey Ghost, the Ironfist, etc. Even though Footrot Flats was from New Zealand, I always thought of the Dog, Wal, Cooch and all the gang as Aussies. Murray Ball is a legend. And Horse is a cat even I like.
Same goes for Garfield. Now here's a smartarse after my own heart. *L* I picked up a book at a library sale once: "Garfield's Insults, Put Downs and Slams". Must say, it's given me some great inspiration. *BG* Here are some good ones:
I've seen better looking hair in the shower drain.
Is that your face, or did your neck throw up?
Your mouth's the perfect size...for your foot.
Don't think of yourself as tall. Think of yourself as a freak of nature.
I'm glad you're tall. It gives me more of you to dislike.
The last time I saw something that looked like you, I flushed it!
May you find an antler in your chocolate mousse!
May all your relatives move in with you. Permanently!
I can't date you yet, I still have standards.
I'd consider going out with you, but I'm still in my right mind.
I hate to leave, but my doctor says boredom is bad for me.
Leave now, while I can still act like I care.
And now we have Warner Bros. cartoons. These guys are the legends. Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, Foghorn Leghorn, Marc Antony, Pepe Le Pew, Marvin, Speedy, Sylvester, Tweety, Taz, the list goes on and on. The humour is fantastic. And it continues with Animaniacs (I love Wakko) and Freakaziod. Now that is my kind of guy. *L*
