What is Weigh In Motion (WIM)?

WIM-- Weigh In motion is a system to measure axle load of moving vehicles at high speed and classify them according to predefined weight categories. The system consists of sensors, data acquisition system and display unit.

Objective

Our objective is to develop a cost effective WIM system to cope with the rapidly flourishing needs of Pakistan's highway network.

The System

Our weigh in motion and traffic monitoring system automatically and unobtrusively monitor traffic at highway speed to provide cost-effective information for road management strategies. Data collected for heavy vehicles includes axle weights, number of axles, speed, axle lengths and classification categories.

Future Applications

Our system is not only restricted to Weigh In Motion applications. It can also be applied in vehicle counting, traffic data analysis and for overload checking.

With some modifications, it can be employed in management of vehicles in parking areas and load measurement in various industries.

The standalone feature enables our system to work independently at any place for acquisition of vehicle data.
