Brother's and Sisters,The word of God plainly tells us that our spirit must be filled with God's Spirit. This is the only way one can walk in Him. Our lamp must be filled with oil. Without the oil, We are powerless. The oil is necessary, for it is our power supply. In essence it is the source of our life and light in our lamp. Before I knew God, I had a lamp, but it was broken. It was damaged by sin. My lamp could not shine and besides this, I had no oil. I was powerless, and my flesh ruled me. Then one day I heard the gospel and believed it within. When I confessed with my mouth what I believed, my lamp was rebuilt (actually re-made), and the oil of God entered in. And now my goal is to shine for Him. Listen to the words of Jesus:
"The lamp of your body is your eye (center); when your eye is clear (unified), your whole body is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness." LUKE 11:34.
Now when Jesus spoke of your eye, what was he speaking of? Was He talking about your physical eye? No, of course not! He was talking about your spirit. He said the lamp is your eye. And we know that your lamp is your spirit. And your spirit is in the midst of your body. Jesus said that if your spirit is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your spirit is not clear, your body will be full of darkness. What does this mean? In the greek clear simply means single, unified, one with (as in oneness). You see, when you are one with God, you are in union with Him. It is just like taking two lenses in a telescope and lining them up. If they are unaligned, no light will pass through. But when they are perfectly aligned, the light comes pouring through and is even magnified. Therefore Jesus was saying that in the midst of your body is your lamp, and if your lamp is one with Him (in union with Him) your whole body will be full of light.
"If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it shall be wholly illumined, as when a lamp illumines you with its rays." LUKE 8:36
Is this not what Paul said as well?
"And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you." ROMANS 8:10,11.
Did you notice that Paul said that the Spirit of God who dwells in you (inside your spirit) will give life to your body. This is our victory over sin, you see, it is the Holy Spirit in you that is crucifying your flesh and putting to death the deeds of your body (flesh). (Romans 8:12,13.).
Brothers and sisters, It is a fact that God has given you a new spirit. It is also true, that He has placed His Spirit in your spirit. And if your spirit is in union with Him, your body will be full of His light, His very presence. Where does this light come from? It is coming from the oil in your lamp. Therefore, you must become one with God, if you want to be filled with Him.
Brothers and sisters, is this not our desire, and our destiny? Has not God called us to walk in the Spirit and to be filled with Him? Yes He has. And He has given you all the ingredients necessary for living a spirit-filled life. All you need to do is to put them to use. For even though you have an anointing on the inside of you, if you do not use that anointing, your lamp will remain dark. For you must consume it (burn it up if you will) if you are to put forth any light. Brothers and Sisters some of us are low on oil and some of us just aren't using it. This is evident by a lack of power in our lives. And if you do not use that anointing, you will lose it. If your spirit remains dormant, you might as well be dead. So wake up. Light your lamps and shine for Him!
I remember when I was younger, I used to do a lot of fishing up on the Salt Fork river in northern Oklahoma. I would set out many lines in hopes of catching many fish, and I usually did! I often would stay out all night. On those occasions I took with me a gas lantern. When it got dark, I would pump it up. It provided light for me for many hours. Often I attempted to stay up all night, but invariably by about 2am I got sleepy. I usually would doze off for about an hour and then wake up to find out that my light was nearly gone. In haste, I would pump the lantern back up, and if necessary put more gas into it. When the dawn finally came it was still shining brightly, even though I had no more need of its light.
Brothers and sisters this is a picture of the body of Christ. We are to be out fishing for men, we are to be working for Him. For the day is coming when the work will cease, and then comes the night. For the night indeed is coming in which no man can work And in those days all of God's people must be filled with His oil. If not, our lamps may go out and we may perish apart from Him. You see in times past God has had mercy on our emptiness, but no more. For we will no longer be without excuse. For He is about to pour out a fresh supply of His Holy Spirit upon the earth, and this gospel will be preached (with power) to all nations as a witness and then the end will come. So my question to you today is this. Will you be ready when Jesus comes again? Will you be prudent or foolish? I warn you in Jesus' name, GET READY! He is coming soon. But before He does, His gospel will be preached with power as a witness to all people.
You know the bible tells us that we have this treasure in earthen vessels, but someday, and I believe it is soon, you'll not have need of that anointing that is on the inside of you. That's right, that's what I said, because when Jesus returns, you will see Him as He is, for you shall be like Him. But until that day dawns, we need to be alert, stay awake. We need to see to it that our lamps remained filled with the oil of heaven, the precious Holy Spirit. For He is the source of our power.
