These rules are in three parts....partly because I want to play around and see what works.... Pt I -- Battletech PBEM using the RPG system... I -- All actions excluding combat scenarios are acted out as easy as writing a story. A -- In order to do this all members of the group, be it lance, company, batalion, etc write how they would interact with the situation presented by the XO, which writes the opening of each chapter of the story. Each story would be at least 12 chapters long and start out usually with an introductory chapter. B -- Combative sections (be it partial or whole chapters) would be conducted through intensive emailing to each member in the group detailing movement and weapon fire decisions. Initiative will be determined with each member picking a number between 1-3 (if a lance) and any group larger than a lance I will announce the high number before the game. the scenery will be detailed and augmented by a hex grid and details and distances will be referred to by the number of hexes and elevations. C -- In another section I will place the tables for making characters with the Mechwarrior system but for now I can give all members their stats and am taking all requests for what each char. looks like (as well as if the person has a disability or not [non-disableds don't get Mechs -- except for "cover scouts"])....all non-mech combat takes place in the same places that we write ourselves in...All you have to do as a player or a group is what you'd like... either make a fight or do something stupid like "let trouble find you" (in which case I can surprise you by writing in that someone seriously ticked off a NPC, a non player character). D -- All places where the dice is usually rolled would be simulated by each member of the group picking a number from between 1-12 and is added to and averaged to an arbitrary number chosen by me, which would then be compared to the "base-to-hit-plus-modifier" number to see if the player hit or missed. E -- In addition to writing the beginning of each chapter, the XO will write a general ending to the current chapter. Each chapter will start each month and the deadline is at the end of the month...on occasion some Player Characters will die but is not usually so. II -- Battletech PBEM without the RPG system If the above system doesn't work out well with me or if you find the above too difficult and cumbersome, then you can join a group that can just write a story and enter and interact in combat without messing with numbers....just write a story and converse with the others through email on how the others are writing the story and what their characters are doing and what they are doing with yours. Then find a way to combine and compromise everyone's actions in the chapter as long as the group ends the chapter in the general way determined by the group's XO. III -- Klingon PBEM This half of the club and PBEM is easier (especially since I don't have the out of print Star Trek RPG to implement in here). Just do as above in Part II and write a story and help each other writing it and compromise ideas from the written beginning to the suggested end. Any of the Player Characters can be killed off (especially in battle) but usually is not preferred. Why kill off a fresh character just to gain honor in battle when the end result is to discourage players? Enough said. ;-)
