The UAE Football Association was established in 1971. It joined the FIFA in 1972 and both the Arab Football Federation and the Asian Soccer Federation in 1974.

The Chairman of the UAE Football Association is His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture.

Sheikh Abdullah is considered the youngest Football Association Chairman in the world. He assumed this responsibility on December 6, 1993, before graduating from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at the UAE University. He is well known for his wide experience, farsightedness, dedication and keenness for development and progress.

Sheikh Abdullah is aided by an elite of distinguished and experienced figures in this field.
