Unit: Civil Rights Movement
Objectives:
1.     Explain how some US citizens were not afforded equal rights before the 1900's.
2.     Outlinee additions to the constitution that provided rights to US citizens freed
        from slavery.
3.     Identify which group of people is ignored in the 14th and 15th amendments.
4.     Identify, state purpose, goals, founders and accomplishments of America's oldest
        civil rights organization.
5.     Explain how the south used laws as a form of legal discrimination.
6.     Identify the impact of Martin Luther King's mentor of non-violence and explain the
        mentor's goal.
7.     Outline Martin Luther King's impact on the civil rights movement (his philosophy,
        organizations created, protest participaiton and implementation and goals for the
        movement).
8.     Identify the purpose and goals of  non-violent protest organizations.
9.     Outline 6 examples of protests used in the civil rights movement:  date, organization,
        goal, location, events, reaction of local/ national governments, and significance to
        movement.
10.   Identify Malcolm Little's impact on the civil rights movement,  explain how his
        philosohy was changed several times in life and identify the catalysts.
11.   Identify the precedent of segregation in public education.
12.   Explain the transition of segregation to integration in public education.  Name the
        legal case that legalizes integration and state the reasoning for this decision.
13.   Identify and explain the impact integration made on public education.  Site an example
        of integration difficulty at secondary and graduate school levels.
14.   Explain the goals and purpose of the Black Panther Organization.
15.   Identify the justification the Black Panthers made for any actions.
16.   Outline US Presidents and legislation that encouraged equality of rights for all
        citizens.
17.   Explain why women created a movement for equality.  Identify their legal goal and
        name the person who helped to shape the wording of this amendment.
18.   Identify the purpose of the 19th amendment and date of ratification.
19.   Identify the purposeand outline significant goals of the Civil Rights Act.
