It's Almost Summer Already? Q101 Jamboree '99!
The Dude on the Left says...
In a nutshell, The Offspring rocked. There weren't any real surprises. They play loud, fast and hard. They covered all their classics, "Come out and Play", "Pretty Fly", "Bad Habit", etc. Their set also included the beating of manikins dressed up like the Backstreet Boys. But it was the ending that was just a memorable as Dexter finished the set by asking the crowd to help clean up by throwing all their trash toward the stage. This sparked a 15-minute barrage of empty and full cups, paper and anything else people could find. I saw a couple bottles and cans, but all in all people were pretty smart about what they threw and the whole thing was pretty harmless considering what else kids these days are doing.
The Dude on the Right says...
Much was written about Dexter and his comments asking people to throw their garbage on stage, and I feel bad for anyone who may have gotten hurt, but from a person off to the side of the pavilion I must say that the wave of cups and garbage that headed towards the stage, after Dexter asked the people to help clean up, was one of the funniest things I have ever seen at a concert. I guess my only suggestion if you are ever at a concert where someone in the band asks you to throw your garbage is to either assume the crash position or start throwing. I'm sure my attitude may be different if I had gotten hit in the head with a bottle, but enough preaching, what about the show? Well, pretty much ditto what The Dude on the Left said. The Offspring rocked.
