Juno Awards reveals nominations

February 2, 2000: Juno Awards, Canada's Grammy equivalent, revealed the nominations for its awards. This year marks the first recent memory that the Juno nominations have been heavy with newcomers with less attention on veteran superstars. This time, Alanis Morissette is the one who leads Juno Awards with 5 nominations.

Curious facts on the Awards is that Vancouver's Sarah McLachlan received no nominations, but will be honored with the International Achievement Awards fro her successful recording career and work with Lilith Faith. The IAA is presented on occasion to recognize outstanding achievements of Canadiand acts worldwide. This year's Juno will also posthumously induct recently deceased producer Bruce Fairbairn (Aerosmith, Kiss, Cranberries) into Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The Juno Awards will be presented March 11-12, with the 12 most high-profile trophies handed out on the 12th in a televised broadcast from Toronto's SkyDome. The show will be hosted by West Coast teen sensations The Moffatts and feature performances by Barenaked Ladies, Our Lady Peace, Amanda Marshall, Diana Krall, Prozzäk, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Great Big Sea.

The Offspring runs with Americana for the odd awards, "Best Selling Album." Along with The Offspring are Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin and Celine Dion running for this category, "Best Selling Album" (foreign or domestic).

A complete list of the nominees can be found at Juno Awards website.
