Holy Crap!

The Offspring in the shit on new album

The Offspring are putting the finishing touches to their nearly-completed new album, due out on November 14 through Columbia.

The band have completed 12 songs for the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 1998’s 'Americana' and are now in the process of recording six or seven other tracks for b-sides with producer Brendan O'Brien. He's previously worked with Black Crowes, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith and Danzig.

The album has a working title of 'Platejob' - a name derived from a bizarre sexual practice involving a glass plate and defecation.

The band are planning to add guest rappers to the record but no names have been confirmed as yet. It’s likely that new track 'Original Prankster' will be the first single from the record. Other potential singles include a track called 'Come Out Swinging'.

Last week, Offspring guitarist Kevin 'Noodles' Wasserman told nme.com: "I think it’s going to be our best record ever.

"There’s some great stuff on there - there are a couple of songs which are just great heavy rock songs, there are typical Offspring fast melodic songs and there’s couple of leftfielders - songs that people really wouldn’t expect from us.

"We’ve been putting horns on stuff - there’s a kind of jazzy feel to it."

The Offspring hope to return to the UK to play live dates in 2001.
