Chapter 1

I swore I could hear the faint voice of my best friend Taylor Hanson calling me. We've known each other since I moved to Tulsa just after I turned 3. My father and his father worked at the same oil company, so that meant both of us traveled alot. My stepmom always told me, but I don't believe her, that when my dad had to haul me off to Trinidad with him, I would never leave Zac, Ike, or Taylor's side. I can't even remember meeting any Hanson before we finally moved back to Tulsa. Pictures proved I did, but it doesn't mean everything I hear is true, right? Well I'm 14 now, and my 15th birthday is three weeks away. "Amanda!" he called. I turned a half turn on my rollerblades and looked around. No one. "Taylor! I swear if you, Ike or Zac try to ambush me like you did last week I will- HEY!" I shrieked. Taylor popped out from behind a bush and smiled at me. I saw Zac's blonde head behind a bush beside me. Isaac Hanson, I couldn't quite point out, but I knew he was behind me. "Why would we ambush you, if we had to pleasure of doing that last week?" Taylor mused. His dimple being revealed as he stepped close to me. "No way...back up now!" I demanded, placing my hands on his chest and blocking him from coming any closer. Not a smart move! Being on roller blades wasn't the best thing to be using when your best friend and his brothers decide to ambush you. He stepped closer, causing me to roll backwards. "Tay...I swear when we get home..your deaaaad!" I screamed as I felt Isaac's arms wrap around my waist. Taylor signaled Zac, and he popped out from the bush besides me. "I'm not ambushing you..Ike is!" Taylor said bravely. He may have been two inches taller than me, but I was always stronger, and he knew I'd wrestly him for this later. I always got back at him and his scheming brothers! Zac had a little army colored hat on, to match his pants, and yellow boots that shined off his hair, that was pulled back in a lose ponytail. He had a green shirt that clung tightly to his body, I knew it must have been Tay's cause he always could fit in tight shirts. I decided Zac looked original, as he always did when his imagination was put to work. I watched Taylor whisper something into Zac's ear while I struggled to get lose from Ike's grip. Zac walked up to me, as Isaac placed my feet on the ground. "Tay started a war between us and the kids..right now they are kicking our butts big time..and we need back up. That's why Isaac is holding you captive right now!" he stated. I snorted with sarcasm. "Holding? More like squeezing the life out of me! Now put me down..or I-" "Alright alright I'll put you down, just don't kick me with those blades!" Isaac jumped in and finished with a sigh. Tay smiled, seeming to remember how last time I kicked Isaac and skated toward my house. Which wasn't a good idea, because Zac caught up to me, and pushed me in my pool., totally ruining my brand new blades. They rusted faster than my dad when driving to me meeting. I laughed. "Ikey...I promis!" I lied. I wanted to kick him softly, just to see him face, but I decided against it. I looked around, noticing Taylor had left. Isaac put me down and back away quickly. "Guys, where did Taylor go?" I asked as we walked toward their house. Zac shrugged and walked around the side of the hosue. "RUN! HE'S JOINED THE DARK SIDE!" Zac shrieked, as he ran toward me and Ike no less than a minute later. I noticed almost immediately that he was wet. Isaac smiled at me and tilted his head toward the back of the house. He stepped close to me and I could feel his breath on my neck. "Run in the back and grab him. I'll get the house from him and we'll get him!" Ike smiled widely. I raised an eyebrow. "As much as I'd love to do that, I have a feeling, just a feeling that I might be the one getting soaked with freezing cold water!" I said, crossing my arms in front of my chest. Isaac snickered and shook his head. "Just duck behind him and we'll be fine..." he said, walking toward Tay. I smiled at his bad excuse for a lie and walked around the back of the house. I noticed the kids weren't even home. I then remembered Mrs. Hanson telling me a few days ago that she and Mr. Hanson were going to take the kids to see 'Teletubbies On Ice'. Shivering at the thought of Teletubbies, I peaked around the corner of the house. Isaac managed to wrestle the hose from Taylor. Just as I stepped out into their view, I felt someone cast a shadow on my back. "Huh?" I whispered. "Oh no!" Zac jumped roughly onto my back. His arms hung around my neck softly. 'Sweet enough, atleast he remembered my necklaces!'I thought to myself, fingering the necklaces the boys had given me for my 13th birthday. Zac let out a huge scream and I took that as a signal to run. So I did. I ran toward Taylor and Isaac. Right when I was about to bulldozer Tay, Zac jumped off of me. At that same second I saw Isaac turn the hose on. "No..you guys..please..not again!" I begged, stepping back slowly. Tay found his way over to Isaac, Zac positioned closely at his side. They all wrapped their hands around the hose and stepped toward me. I stepped back trying to pull away from whatever water they were about to squirt. My wheel somehow found it's way to a large, very deep hole in the ground, causing me to take a digger. "Ow!" I remember saying. I fell butt first, which didn't hurt, but I twisted my akle fully around. When I opened my eyes, I saw three blonde heads looking down at me. "Are you okay?" Taylor asked kneeling beside me. "I'm gonna kill Wickit!" Zac said, running toward the dog house. I wanted to laugh, but I didn't. I cried. Isaac pulled my left blade off of my foot and reached for my right foot. "No!" I said, my voice cracking as I tried to pull out of his grasp. Taylor's facial expression turned hurtful. Why? Who knows. I looked in his eyes, past the sorrow and deep into his heart. I could tell riht there, that he felt responsible. "Manda, Mandie, AMANDA?" Ike's voice broke my thought. I looked at him. My vision blurred with tears. "I have to take it off..or I won't be able to see if it's swollen!" he said, softly unpopping the first latch on my skate. Taylor tensed, and reached for my hand. I grasped it tightly and closed my eyes as Isaac loosened the latches. "Ow!" I said softly. Taylor squeezed my hand. "Isaac! Your hurting her!" he said, giving Isaac a hard stare. Ike ignored him and asked me if I was Okay. I nodded and rested my head on Taylor's lap. I closed my eyes and just kinda dozed off I guess.
