Chapter 10
Chapter 10:
Lacey walked around the house like a mad-dog. Two days later, the police were
suppose to come to get a description of the man who hurt us. I silently excused myself and
ran upstairs to my room. I picked up the phone and dialed Hanson's hotel phone number. It
rang about 12 times, when someone picked up.
"Hello?"
"Oh good, Taylor. It's me, where have you been?" I questioned him. We
hadn't spoken since that night Kristi was raped. Taylor never returned my beeps, and when
he called I wasn't home.
"It's been real busy. You said you needed to talk to me..yesturday. What's
going on?" he asked me. I stiffened a laugh.
"Um..that's the hard part..."I trailed off, looking over my body in the
mirror. My doctor had told me to wear a belly shirt and shorts, so the cuts and bruises
could heal quicker.
"Amanda? What's up?" he asked again. I touched my head, on the large cut
I had gotten from the sink when I hit it.
"Um, the other day, when Kristi and I went to the club..uh..something
happened.." I said. I wasn't quite sure how to tell him. Even though I ran the conversation
through my mind several times, I couldn't decided how to tell him.
"What happened? Is everyone OKay?" I heard Taylor cover the mouth
piece, and tell Zac to pick up the extension.
"Zac shouldn't hear this from me..Kristi might want to tell him." I stated.
Zac cleared his throat.
"What's going on?" he asked me. Right then I knew they were alittle
freaked out., I decided I would tell them straight out.
"At the club, a friend of Kristi's tried to rape me.." Taylor gasped. "But, he
got to Kristi instead. He drugged her., with the..ra-"
"The rape drug!" Zac and Taylor both finished my sentence for me.
"Yes. The man's name was Lorean.." I paused, remembering the night.
"When I confronted him about poisoning Kristi, he pulled me into the men's room..and, "
Right there, I choked. "he beat me..." I trailed off. Taylor gasped again.
"Are you OKay? How bad are you hurt?" he hounded. I smiled at myself,
and touched the large bruise on my arm.
"Kinda bad. If Crystal hadn't woken me up, I wouldn't have fallen into a
coma... " I paused quickly. That was what Jeremy told me anyways. "When he knocked me
out, he ran to Kristi. He locked her in the girls room..and.. and he raped her. She was so
drugged he thought she probably wouldn't feel anything..." I said. Zac cleared his throat
twice before speaking.
"Where is she? I need to talk to her.." he said. I jumped.
"You can't. She hasn't spoken to me, or anyone since it happened." I paused
for about 4 heart beats. "But, the thing is, the drug only worked for 30 minutes, so when
he finally got her down, it had worn off. He beat her so badly. Then when he was
finished..." I choked. Was I suppose to get this far into it? What will Zac say to Kristi? I
thought to myself. Then I continued. "He pulled a knife on her, and sliced almost every
inch of her. Thank god we got her to the hospital, because if we didn't, she could
have...have..uh..bled to death. She's so scared, she won't talk to anyone. I can't even knock
on her bedroom door without her pulling a base ball bat on me..." I paused again. I
expected Zac or Taylor to interrupt me, but they didn't. "When she was being checked
out, I went in her bedroom to get some laundry, and I came across an extremely large knife
under her bed...she's really is scared!" I stated. Zac, then jumped in.
"We're coming home...we'll be back tomorrow morning!" he said, hanging up
the phone quickly. Taylor sniffled softly.
"Is he alright? Are you really coming home tomorrow?" I asked Tay. Taylor
accidentally leaned his cheek against the phone, and it beeped.
"Sorry. Yeah, Dad over heard us on his line, and we're coming home
tomorrow...um, Zac is really frightened. He ran out of here, almost in tears.." Taylor told
me. My thoughts drifted off, I could just picture me and Taylor together..but then my
mind flashed back to the way Lorean kissed me. It was almost the way Taylor kissed me.
Lorean's kisses were full of passion, but I refused them. Taylor's kisses were so full of
passion, his lips seem to explode when we kissed. I shook my head, and remembered we
were on the phone. How was I going to react to him?
"I miss you, and can't wait to see you tomorrow!" I paused, knowing I really
wanted to see him. "But, I better go tell Kristi that Zac is coming tomorrow!" Taylor
coughed, and blew his noise.
"Sorry about that...alright. Miss you lots. Bubye!" he hung up. I listened to
the silence that shot through the phone.
"KRISTI, AMANDA! The man I spoke to is here..." Lacey called. My head
whipped toward the door. I ran down the stairs, and stopped at the living room entrance.
"Mr. Stanley?" I questioned. "I thought you were a fire fighter?!" Mr.
Stanley looked up.
"I am, it's our job to enforce problems like this..." he told me, standing up
and shaking my hand. I froze. This is a really small world. I figured, after thinking about it.
Lacey sipped her tea, and her eyes fell on Kristi. We all turned to look at her. She stood
behind me, her hair dirty and thrown about, she had her pjs on, and she smelled like fresh
tears and green apples. I took a deep breath, and sucked in her scent. MMMmmm, I
remembered how I smelled almost like her, just about a month ago. She gave us a faint
smile, and sat in her favorite spot. Her blue bean bag, that always stood in the same room,
in the same position. I smiled and sat next to her on the floor. I noticed she didn't obey
the doctor's orders. Her pj's were so heavy, I was sure her cuts probably had fresh blood
on them. Her face was white, and it seemed the like the large cut that rested on her
cheek just stood out to me, probably because it was so red and fresh.
Mr. Stanley introduced himself to Kristi, and then made himself comfortable on
the couch. "Alright girls..I need you to help me with a description of the man..." Mr.
Stanley told us. I was prepared for this, and I wanted to get this man in jail so
quickly..ugh! I closed my eyes and pictured Lorean.
"Brown hair..deep brown eyes...tall, muscular.." I whispered. When I opened
my eyes, Mr. Stanley was scribbling on his pad, and Lacey was watching him. I turned
toward Kristi. She had a lifeless stare. "Are you OKay?" I whispered to her. She shook her
head.
"Thin, oval shaped face..um, square like jaw line..." she whispered almost as
softly as I did. I jumped in.
"He was unshaven. Like he was about to grow a goatee or a beard." I said.
Suddenly everything that happened just two days earlier came into my head. Mr. Stanley
looked up from his drawing pad and smiled. His lips traced into one thin line.
"His nose?" he questioned. I raised an eyebrow and looked at Kristi. She
shrugged lightly.
"May I be excused?" she asked, jumping from the bean bag.
"Honey we need yo-" Lacey began, than stopped when Kristi left the room.
She turned toward me. "Can you do it?" I nodded.
"I have too..." I slide over, and up into Kristi's bean bag. Mr. Stanley turned
the pad around and showed it to me. My face dropped. "How..how..did you do...that?" I
whispered. Lorean's face was so life like..it scared me. Mr. Stanley smiled.
"This isn't the first time I've done this.." he paused. "His nose...what was it
like?" he asked me. I searched the picture.
"Can I try?" I asked him. Lacey shook her head at me, but Mr. Stanley
smiled and handed me the pad.
"If you know..then feel free!" he told me. I took the pencil and bit the back
of it. I closed my eyes, and I saw Lorean. The way he looked at me, when we first met. I
opened my eyes and drew the outline of his nose, the nostrils, and the nose ring. I sighed
and pictured his face again.
"That's it.." I whispered, drawing one final part to his face. His earring,
located in his right ear wasn't on the picture, so I drew it. "Here..." I told Mr. Stanley,
handing him the pad. Lacey had a proud smile on her face and she came to the floor,
reaching out to hug me. I felt her wrap her arms around me. Mr. Stanley studied the
picture carefully.
"Are you sure this man's name is Lorean? And not Anthony?" he asked me. I
nodded.
"Kristi said his name was Lorean. I'm not sure if it was his middle or
first...why?" I asked him, as Lacey pulled away from me. My eyes fell onto Mr. Stanley's
and we sat in silence, searching each other's eyes.
"This man..is my..gran...grandson..." he whispered. "I can't believe I didn't
recongnize it earlier!" I froze.
"No..you can not be serious..." Lacey replied. I blinked about 7 times, and I
felt a tear fall from my eye. Mr. Stanley placed the note pad in his bag and stood up.
"I'll call you tonight, so you and Kristi can come in tomorrow to see the
line-up!" he whispered, walking out of the house.
"What is this?" I whispered, running up stairs and into Kristi's room.
Kristi lay on her bed. The bat not in her grasp, she was furiously trying to reach it.
I stepped farther into the room.
"It's me...Amanda..." I told her. Her hand dropped and she sighed with
relief.
"Is he gone?" she asked me. I walked over to her bed, and turned her fan
on.
"It's so stuffy in h-"
"I like it!" she jumped in rudely. I sighed and let it pass.
"That man..his name isn't Lorean..." I paused, and sat next to her on the
bed. She turned over and looked up at the ceiling. "It's Anthony.. Stanley!" I stated. She
sat up quickly, and it seemed to me like she was shaking.
"Mr. Stanley's son?" she asked. I shook my head.
"Grandson...I can't believe this Kristi..I can't!" I said, choking up. Kristi's
gaze fell onto her stereo.
"It didn't happen..it was a nightmare. He wouldn't...he liked me..." she said,
her voice soft but harsh. I looked at her.
"Kristi...he didn't like you...it wasn't a nightmare. For god's sake..why can't
you see he raped you?" I yelled at her. Kristi looked up at me, and then she blinked, tears
tracing her cheeks.
"Stop! I don't need this..." she said, falling into a long stream of tears. I
didn't soften. How could she think this didn't happen? Is she just trying to push it away? I
asked myself.
"No! You don't need this..if he liked you..why did he hurt you? Why are you
here crying. With a knife under bed, windows locked, and several damn bats sitting on each
side of your room?" I questioned her. I stood up and motioned toward everything. She
looked at me.
"I don't know!" she choked. "I can't understand anything, anymore...it is
just so unreal," she told me. I looked at her, and walked out. Kristi looked up and then
coughed in between several tears. I ran up into the attic, and into my room.
"Arg!" I moaned, flinging my pillows off of my bed. "She's so stupid! I can't
stand this. She can't mope around the house forever..ugh..." I said, falling into my own fit
of tears. I fell onto my bed and fell asleep.
