Chapter Twelve

I slowly stepped onto the plane. Kristi and Lacey were about 20 feet away from me. I hadn't spoken to either of them since yesterday morning., and I didn't intend to now! "AMANDA!" Lacey shrieked. I tuned her out, and looked around, as if I were looking for a girl named Amanda. People start to turn around, in search of an embarrassed little girl, named Amanda. My face hot, I sat down in a seat mark A21. My favorite number. Maybe I would get lucky, and meet a long lost sister. I could switch places with her! I thought to myself hopefully. A second later a tall, dark haired, teenage boy sat next to me. His body tensing at the touch of my elbow. I looked at him, and hugged my carry on bag tightly against my chest. The boy exchanged a few words with an older woman, and she found her seat, a few rows up. The boy placed his bag under his seat, and turned toward me. "Hello." he said. I winced at the sound of his voice. It was casual, but yet it hinted 'get to know me, get to know me.' I wanted to laugh, but didn't. I extended my hand instead. "I'm Amanda. Amanda London." I stated. I decided to go by my mother's madden name, because, well I wasn't quite sure why, but it felt right. Before the boy could tell me his name I noticed Kristi walking toward my section. Turning quickly I stuck my head under the seat. The boy, was looking down at me, when Kristi approached us. "Amanda, mom wants you...now!" she said, her voice telling me she was happy, and wanted me to get yelled at. Two days earlier I had walked out on a discussion about moving to Atlanta. My mind still hasn't changed its mind, but there was nothing left to do. I closed my eyes, and squeezed the boy's ankle. He jumped and looked at Kristi. Quickly, and almost to helpfully, he placed his hand on my back. "That girl Amanda, your looking for, just ran back to 3rd class. She told everyone not to tell you..but I had too." he said. I smiled, that was too convincing. "And why is that?" Kristi asked. "Because, you mistook my girlfriend Jasmine for a girl named Amanda." he said. I squeezed his ankle again and smiled to myself. Kristi sighed. "Alright, if you see her, tell her Lacey wants her. Because I am NOT about to go all the way back into 3rd class..eww!" she said. Turning around, she walked away. The boy tapped my back. "All clear. She went back to the front!" he said. I raised my head, and looked at him. "Thank you so much!" I sighed. He smiled and reached for my hand. "My name is Duncan. Duncan Cassandra." he said. Duncan had gorgeous, deep, breathtaking brown eyes. His body was very well cared for, and his black shirt clung to his chest. "You really saved my life back there!" I admitted to him. He took his hand back and rested his head back against the head rest. "Why? She seemed almost harmless." I laughed. "Harmless? She's a killer..." I paused. "There making me move to Atlanta, you know." Duncan looked at me, his eyes shining. "Really? I live in Atlanta..I came here to visit a relative." he said, his voice trailing off. "A dead relative, may I add." I gasped softly. "What happened?" I urged. He looked back at me. "My mom's aunt, Moreen passed away in a car accident. So did her husband. I never met them though. We were suppose to spend a week's vacation together." he said. My eyes grew wide, and I touched his arm. What is going on here? I asked myself. My head began to spin, but I blinked, and it passed. "Moreen? Are you sure?" My voice came out hoarse and cracked. He looked at me with confusion. "Yeah, pretty sure..why?" he questioned. Duncan quickly glanced at the lady he was talking to before, and them turned back to me. "She was my step mom." I told him. He leaned back, his mouth a perfect o. "Your lying!" he said, his voice full of shock. "I've never heard of Amanda London before!" he said. I smiled weakly. "When they passed away, I decided to go by my mother's madden name!" I explained to him. Duncan fell into a smile, and turned to the lady. "Mom, come here for a second!" he called. I smiled, my blood pumping, and my heart racing. The lady stood up, and came to us. "Momma, you'll never guess who this is." he said. I could tell he was excited about telling his mom about me. I smiled warmly up at her, as she looked me over. "Hello young lady." she said to me. She turned to Duncan. "Who?" she questioned. He touched my shoulder, and looked at me. "Amanda London. Scott & Moreen's daughter!" he explained. Being my cue, I extended my hand. She study my for a second, and she smiled broadly. Taking my hand, she squealed for a quick second. "Amanda London! Wow! I'm Patricia Cassandra! How are you?" She asked. I felt overwhelmed, and I knew if I was any happier, I would have passed out right there. "I'm fine. Nice to meet you!" I said. Duncan was smiling so brightly, I could of swore I need sunglasses to look at him. "How did you know Moreen?" I urged. Patricia took a seat cross from us, and leaned toward us. "Oh honey, your mom was my auntie." She sounded so happy, it scared me. "It's step mom!" I told her. "You live in Atlanta?" I asked her. Duncan finally stopped smiling, and he went to search through his c.d. case. "Yes we do. Can't wait to go there, is that we're your going?" she spoke quickly. "Um, yeah. My best friend's mom is dragging me there. Some family problems." I admitted. What was wrong with giving alittle detail? They are family, aren't they? Patricia smiled, and looked in my eyes. "Who's your best friend?" she asked me. Just then a light bulb went off in my head. Maybe they know each other! "Kristi Roderick. Her mom is Lac-" "Lacey Roderick? Ohh, I haven't seen her since high school!" Patricia broke in with a squeal. I smiled, instinctively. Duncan looked up. "Kristi Roderick? She's suppose to be in my class this year!" he said. Oh my gosh! I thought to myself. This is too weird! I smiled again. "Yeah, that's her. She's up ahead, wanna go talk to her?" I asked. Patricia smiled, and jumped up. "Oh would you?" she asked. I nodded, and lead her to Lacey.
