Chapter Thirteen
Lacey and Patricia had been talking for over 2 hours now. The plane was going to be landing
soon, and I haven't the slightest clue on what they were talking about. Duncan turned to
me, and he waved his hand in front of my face. Jumping softly, and looked at him.
"I wonder what they're talking about!" I said. He smiled.
"About you, none the less." he paused., "Do you think they're talking about
making arrangements?" he asked me. I scanned Duncan's face.
"Arrangements?" I mimicked, in a state of pure confusion. Resting one leg
on the other, he raised his eyebrow.
"Yeah. When I walked past them I heard them talking about you, me, and
my mom. Kristi didn't look very happy either." Duncan admitted. My mouth fell.
"Arrangements?" I repeated. He laughed softly.
"Yes. I'm going to go take a peek. Stay here!" he demanded, as he ran of
into the front. I leaned back and gazed out the window. I noticed we were in Atlanta now,
because we just passed Lacey's church. She always made me and Kristi go to the midnight
mass, every other day when I came to visit. Just thinking about it made me sick. I scanned
the area, and noticed the Middle School, and High School. Wonderful. I thought to myself.
There were teenagers playing soccer in the High School soccer field. I could atleast join the
team. I assured myself. Laughing I turned and anxiously awaited Duncan's return.
Lacey hugged Kristi tightly, and rested her cheek on Kristi's head. "It'll be OKay
sweetie." she whispered. Kristi smiled weakly, and look at Duncan.
"Did you make them do this?" she asked. Duncan felt winded.
"Me? I never even thought of it. It is in Amanda's best interest." he said.
Kristi snickered at him; in an move of disbelief, and looked toward Patricia.
"You really want her to move with you?" she choked. Patricia smiled.
"Of course I do! Amanda is family. And after her parents..I think it would
be easier for her to deal with it if she were with us. Atleast until she decides it time to
move back to Tulsa." Patricia said. She sounded so meaningful, and happy. Duncan excused
himself, and walked back into our area.
"We have something to tell you." he said, approaching me. I raised an
eyebrow as he took my hands and lead me into the other seating area. Lacey, Kristi and
Patricia all smiled at me, and I noticed Kristi had tears in her eyes.
"What's going on?" I asked. "I do need to be filled in once and a while you
know!" I said. After a few moments of silence, Lacey pulled me down onto her lap. I
squirmed with embarrassment, and then waited.
"What do you think about living with Patty and Duncan for a little while?
Until you get over..your..parents." she asked me. I winced when her voice cracked. Duncan
smiled, and rested his hand on his mother's shoulder. I looked at Kristi, feeling a rage of
anger towards her, I turned way. Patricia took my hands in hers.
"We want to be with you. Would you like to live with Duncan and I, until
your ready to go back to Tulsa?" she asked. I felt myself smile, and tears of excitement
soaked my eyes.
"Really? I could go back to Tulsa..too?" I asked. Hearing the word Tulsa, my
mind flashed to Taylor. Him and his family all standing at the airport for me. When the
place lands, I run into his arms. We kiss., with all the happiness in the world. I exchange
good-bye hugs with Duncan and Patricia, and I leave for my house. The place I've always
lived. Of course I am only 15, but I could manage a house on my own. Duncan clicked his
tongue, releasing my from my daydream.
"What do you think?" he asked. I hopped off of Lacey's lap, and I fell into
his arms.
"I love it. I can't wait!" I squealed. Everything was going to be great.
Duncan and I would be almost like brother & sister. Patricia laughed, and I reached down
and gave her a thank-you hug. I turned a second later, and I stood face to face with the
two people that brought this upon me. Kristi was in a small fit of tears, as of now. I leaned
down and hugged her. She grasped me tightly, and whispered a sadfull beg for me to stay
with her. She told me she need me. I felt as if I had just melt. "I can't!" I whispered back
to her, as I pulled away from her. I moved toward Lacey. She grabbed me, and hugged me
tightly. She cried words of love and advice in my hair. Most of which were lost, and I
couldn't hear. I softly kissed her cheek, and, as we pulled apart the flight attendant made
an annoucement that we will be landing in 2 minutes. Duncan and I sat together on one
seat, and I felt the pressure of the impact of the place touching ground.
As I waved good-bye to Kristi and Lacey, I thought of how long I'd stay with
Duncan and Patricia before I return to Tulsa. Duncan called a cab over, and us three made
ourselves comfortable in the back seat.
"Do you think I can stay for 3 months?" I questioned. Duncan smiled and
pushed hair out of my face. Patricia smiled, and brushed the back of her hand along my
cheek.
"Honey, you can stay for all long- or short- as you like. We don't want to
hold you back." she said. I smiled.
"This is so awesome." I paused. "When I finish unpacking my stuff, would it
be alright if I call Taylor?" I asked. Duncan looked at me.
"Taylor..from Hanson? You know HANSON?" he asked. Patricia laughed.
"Of course. How do you know him? Are you close?" she asked me. I smiled.
"He's my boyfriend." I whispered. Just then, as I looked out the cab
window, I remembered how the last day I was in Tulsa, Shane and I kissed, I sighed and
thought of how to set up my bedroom.
The whole ride to my new home, Patricia and Duncan chattered on about school,
and the house, and the neighboorhood. This life I have..as I would say right now..rocks!
