Chapter Sixteen
I walked into the living room, my robe hanging loosely on my body. I looked up and saw
Isaac and Taylor playing video games.
"Where's Zac?" I asked. I sat down on the couch next to Taylor. Neither
of them looked away from the game.
"He went out with Kristi." Duncan acknowledged me, walking into the room.
"Hey." I said. He smiled and walked upstairs. I kissed Taylor's flustered
cheek and walked up the stairs. When I reached my door way, I noticed Duncan sitting at
his desk. Stepping back, I looked farther into his bedroom. He looked up and we locked
eyes.
"Hey babe." he said as he always did. I smiled and walked into his room. I
sat down on his bed. Before I could speak he dropped his pen and looked at me. "Don't soak
my bed... OKay?" he laughed. I looked at Duncan's desk and noticed he wasn't doing
homework, but something else.
"What are you doing?" I decided to ask him. He smiled at me and quickly
grabbed the paper.
"Nothing that concerns you. Don't worry about it!" he told me. Duncan's
eyes sparkled with laughter, as I stood up and leaned over him to get the paper.
"Duncan." I whined. "You can show me!" I assured him. H laughed and shoved
me onto his bed. I laughed so hard tears came to my eyes. I had absolutely no clue on why
I was laughing so hard. Duncan sat on the bed next to me, and pressed his hands onto my
waist, stopping me from laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" he asked. I shook my head, letting the laughing
tears fall down my face.
"I'm so sorry. I don't know why I'm laughing." I explained to him. He stood
up and shut the door.
"You went through with it, didn't you?" Duncan asked me in a anxious, yet
soothing whisper. I sat up and ran my fingers through my still wet and uncombed hair.
"How did you know?" I asked. I expected my voice to come out strong and
demanding, but instead it came out soft and scared. He gave me a small smile.
"I knew you would. Just by the way you talked about him. And then got lost
in thought when Mom went to pick the guys up from the airport. It was so obvious. I'm
pretty sure mom knew too. That's why she insisted one all of us going out to get ice
cream." he paused "For two and a half hours." I looked at him, my mouth about to hit the
floor.
"I'm sorry." I whispered. I couldn't bear to look him in the eye. "Duncan,
forgive me. I would have waited until I got back to Tulsa...but..I couldn't. I just couldn't."
I confessed. He smiled and pulled me into a hug.
"Babe, it's OKay." he paused and kissed my head. "Go get dressed. You have
all day to hang with the guys, don't spend your time...here with me!" he said, picking me up,
and placing me on the floor. I silently walked out, and into my bedroom.
Kristi and Zac walked out of the movie theater.
"That was awesome!" Zac said. Kristi looked at him.
"It was. Do you know that never in a million years would I think I would see,
never mind like that movie!" she said. Zac smiled and they stopped in front of a ice cream
parlor. Kristi leaned forward and kissed Zac quickly. "Let's get some ice cream." she
suggested.
"I had enough ice cream last night to last me atleast until tomorrow." he
paused. "Maybe even until Friday." he stopped again, and he a Kristi exchanged glances.
"Nah." they both laughed. They walked silently down the street, until the
reached a coffee stop.
"How 'bout this?" Zac suggested. Kristi smiled and they found a seat, way
in the back. After they ordered their meals, Zac sighed. "Can I tell you something? If you
promise not to tell Taylor, Isaac, or Amanda!" he whispered. Kristi searched his eyes.
"Sure. What?" she said. Zac smiled.
"I think Patricia took us out, because Taylor and Amanda went somewhere
or did something." he said.
"Something?" she repeated. Zac fell silent as the waitress came back with
their order. Right after she left Zac spoke.
"Yes. Something they didn't want any of us to know about." he said biting
into his cheeseburger. Kristi took a sip of her chocolate shake, as a man approached them.
"Zac." Kristi jumped, grabbing his arm.
"It's OKay Kristi." whispered, looking over the man, just as he stepped up
to then. Kristi froze and Zac looked up. "Can I help you?" he asked. The man leaned close
to Kristi and reached inside his trench coat.
"ZAC!" Kristi shrieked, punching the guy in the stomach. "RUN!"
"Kristi!" Zac questioned. Kristi quickly jumped up, smashing Zac's soda glass
onto the man's head.
"C'mon!" she said, pulling Zac out of the shop, and down the street. Finally
after they ran 3 blocks down, they reached the park.
"What was that about?" Zac questioned. He tiredly sat himself down onto a
near by bench. Kristi plopped down next to him, her head in her hands.
"I was..so scared." she said, choking as tears came. Zac examined her, and
then hugged her tightly.
"It's OKay Kristi. It's OKay." he whispered. Kristi's shoulder shook as she
cried with fright.
"I want to go home." she sighed, drying her tears. Zac pulled away from her
and sighed himself.
"Alright." he said.
I walked down the hallway, my wet robe by my side. "Duncan?" I whispered, peering
into his room. He wasn't there. Shrugging I walked far enough into his room to see my
reflection in his full length wall mirror. I was wearing a lime green halter top, with a white
lace over shirt. My dark super bell bottoms clung tightly to my legs. "Wow." I said to
myself. I couldn't help but admit that I looked hot. My hair clung to my face, and my
cheeks were flushed. My lips a pinkish red color, and shiny from my strawberry lip gloss.
Smiling, I walked down stairs. Isaac was sitting on the porch with his guitar. Duncan was it
his side, with his guitar. I laughed at the site, and walked outside. "Where'd Taylor go?" I
questioned. Isaac looked up, as he strummed several strings.
"He took Duncan's bike. He told us to tell you to meet him at the ice cream
shop." he told me. I smiled, waved good-bye to them, hopped on my bike and rode down the
road.
"Tay?" I whispered, knowing he wasn't at the ice cream shop. Why?
Because it's his first full day here, and I hadn't showed him around. Therefore he couldn't
have known where the ice cream shop was.
"Hey. Psst. Over here!" Someone who sounded alittle-too-much-like-Taylor
called to me. A smile spread across my face, as I turned off the road into a thick line of
trees.
"Where are you?" I asked loudly, searching the area. Taylor came up behind
me and placed his arms around my waist. I jumped. "Don't do that to me!" I said, smacking
his arm.
"Alright alright, I'm sorry!" he apologized. He leaned forward for a hug, but
instead I pressed my lips to his.
"Why didn't you wait for me?" I asked. Suddenly, I didn't care if he
answered., I had to tell him that Duncan and Patricia knew. He was about to answer when I
pressed two of my fingers to his lips. "Duncan knows." I whispered.
"What?" he paused. "About last night?"
"Yeah. So does Patricia." I told him. Taylor went limp, and his face turned
red. "It's OKay. They don't mind." I assured him.
"But I do. Last night was special. I didn't want them to know." he
whispered.
"Taylor." I begged. "It was special. And I have to admit I didn't want
anyone to know..I wasn't even going to tell Kristi about it." I paused. "It was personal. But
come on..it doesn't take two and a half hours to get ice cream." Tay sighed.
"Patty told me she got lost."
"Tay." I said again. "She's lived here all her life, I honestly doubt she'd get
lost...especially last night." I was getting angry now. Come on, how bad could it have been.
Patricia and Duncan did us a favor..and now Tay doesn't want to admit he was glad they
knew. Ugh! I thought, stepping back on my bike. As I moved forward, Taylor stepped
infront of me.
"I'm sorry." he said. Finally. My mind thought.
"For what?" I said, moving backward and then forward. Taylor could sense
I was getting irrated., and I knew it.
"For getting upset." he said. I sighed. You call that upset? God. My dog
could get more upset than that. I laughed to myself. But deep inside my heart was
breaking. Taylor was sensitive, and I could understand why he wanted to keep last night a
secret.
"It was my fault. Sorry babe." I said. Pulling him closer I kissed him. We
pulled apart, and he jumped on his bike.
"OKay." he paused. "So are you up to showing me around town?" he asked. I
smiled and we rode out of the woods.
