Chapter Nineteen
Lorean opened his eyes and laughed. He looked into his binoculars and gave his friend an a-
okay signal. "Hello?" Lorean said into his cordless phone. I leaned down in the darkness.
"What?" I asked. Duncan moaned with grief and his head fell limply to the
side. "Why are you doing this?" I said, clumsily walking down the stairs. Taylor turned
around and grabbed my arm. I looked at him and tugged my arm free.
"Oh no, don't want to bring blondie into this!" Lorean laughed. "He's just a
baby he might get hurt." I snickered and slowly opened the front door. Zac called after me
and I ignored him.
"What do you want? C'mon Lorean I'm outside." I paused, hearing heavy
breathing. "Is that what you want?" I asked him.
"Maybe it is, maybe it isn't." he laughed again. His voice fell serious. "My my
you look pretty cute when your demanding. But not as cute as you looked that night."
Lorean signaled to his friend, and the man ran into the woods. Lorean stepped out from
behind a large oak tree, and out into my view. My body became stiff, when I saw his face.
"Oh my god." I whispered. He stepped toward me and I stepped back.
Lorean took three more steps forward, and I took three more steps back. I heard a small
breath of wind come behind me and I heard Lorean groan. I spun around and fell straight
into Taylor. Tay looked down at me and grasped my elbows tightly.
"What are you doing out here? Are you nuts?" he said. I clung to him and
turned around. Lorean had left.
"Wh- Where is he? Where'd he go?" I paused, quickly roaming the area.
"He's gone. Tay he was here. He was right in front of me. Lorean was here, he was." I
started quickly. Taylor looked at me.
"He was here?" he asked, almost laughing.
"Very funny." I said, smacking his arm viciously. Taylor pulled me toward
the house quickly. When we reached the door step I shoved him into the house. "Wait
inside. I'll be okay." I assured him, quickly pulling the door shut. He tugged harshly on the
door. "Stop." I whispered. Tay stopped briefly and then kicked the door. I reached around
and pulled a rope up. The rope that Duncan always uses to keep the door open we have
groceries. Taylor pulled on the door knob about 8 times before I finally got the door
securely shut. "OKay. Breath." I said into the phone. I flipped my head back and stepped
onto the sidewalk. "Where'd ya go Lorean? Your brave enough to rape Krist, but not brave
enough to face me?" I screamed. Heavy breathing came from around me, I wasn't sure if it
was from the phone or from some place around me.
"You ditched blondie ah?" Lorean questioned. I threw my head to my left
and then to my right. He was no where. I turned around, no where to be found.
"Where are you?" I shrieked. Lorean laughed.
"Babe babe. Calm down, you'll see me soon enough." he assured me. I
snickered up at the sky that was now a weird gray.
"When Lorean. When? When you decide it's time to scare the shit out of
some innocent girl? Or when you feel like having a good night? Huh Lorean? When?" I
urged. I was so mad, and my body heat started to rise when I reached the other side of
the street. A strong gust of wind came and blew soft rain drops. "When Lorean?" I
screamed into the air. I heard Lorean sigh and then he laughed.
"Why are you so fistey today?" he asked. I groaned with agony.
"Fistey. Lorean really." I said sarcastically. I saw something move from
behind a yellow house a few houses away from me. I noticed it was Lorean and then I
broke into a run. Rain started to fall now, and the sky turned almost black. My view was
blurred and I heard light thunder far off in the distance. "C'mon, why are you running?
You didn't run that night!" I said into the now staticy phone. Suddenly the phone went
dead and I dropped it onto a near by lawn. Lorean ran behind houses with a phone still in
his hand. Finally when he reached a dog protected house, he ran onto the sidewalk. I ran
faster and my heart felt as if were about to explode. "LOREAN!" I screamed, my throat
burning. He stopped and turned to face me. His face was pale and wet. Lorean stepped
close to me and I stepped back. He smiled with a laugh and reached for me. I smacked his
hand away and I gave him a horrible look.
"Give me a break Amanda." he said. I laughed with bitterness. I grabbed
the phone out of his hand and threw it to the ground. Lightening flashed and the phone
sparked. I jumped a few feet away from it and my eyes locked with Lorean's.
"A break. A break?" I said. "You want me to give you a BREAK?" I just then
realized I was screaming now. He nodded. "Really? Is that what you want?" I paused.
"Let's see. Should I give a man a break for raping my best friend. For terrorizing her. For
stalking me, and for trying to hurt me?" I paused again and laughed. "I don't think I have
the heart to do that Lorean. Maybe you should find another girl who actually cares!" I
shrieked as I leaned over and picked up the electric phone. "Because I don't give a damn!"
I threw the phone at him. Before he could realize what happened I turned around and ran
away.
"YOU BITCH!" Lorean called. I heard him throw the phone at me. I jumped
over a crack in the sidewalk and the phone smashed beside me. I looked back and saw him
coming after me. I threw my head back and laughed as I reached my street. Without
looking back I ran up onto the back porch and into the house. "I'll get you Amanda. Don't
worry!" Lorean yelled to me. I laughed a relieved sigh as I fell against the locked door. I
opened my eyes and realized the lights were back on. Taylor and Zac ran into the kitchen
and looked at me. I smiled and blew the hair out my face.
"What happened? Why did you do that?" Taylor asked, taking my face in his
hands. "Don't ever do that again." he said kissing me quickly. I smiled and sat down at the
kitchen table.
"Uhh." I shivered. "Is everyone alright?" I asked. Zac placed his hand on my
shoulder.
"Yeah, we are. Duncan just got a really nasty cut that's all." he said
squeezing my shoulder. Taylor took me by my wrist and pulled me into the living room.
Duncan and Patricia looked up.
"Oh sweetie your okay." Patty said jumping up and running over to me. She
gripped my face and kissed it viciously. I pulled away.
"I'm fine." I said. "I'm fine." I assured her. Inside I was shaking. My mind
was yelling at me for ever going out and chasing Lorean. My heart ached as it pounded hard
against my chest.
"You secured that door pretty tight, huh babe?" Duncan laughed. Taylor
blushed, he always did when Duncan called me by my nickname. (weird nickname, but it's a
nickname) "Where did you ever learn to tie knots that tight?" he asked. I laughed and
wrapped my arm around Taylor's waist.
"Girl Scouts." I laughed again. "That stuff can actually be useful."
"Yeah." Taylor muttered. Everyone burst into laughter and for the next two
hours we sat together, waiting for the storm to end.
