Chapter Thirty
Alyson opened her eyes and looked around her bedroom. It's been 4 weeks since she's
seen or talked to Zac. He wasn't avoiding her, it's just that Hanson went to New York, and
California. They had been doing alot of TV specials, interviews, and they even performed on
Regis and Kathy Lee again. Alyson waited all day and all night for Zac to call for the past
four weeks., but he's only called her about 6 times. The ticking of the clock was driving
Alyson mad, and she would sit on her bed and stare at the clock for hours at a time. The
minutes seemed to change as slowly as the hours went by.
"What does he expect me to do?" she whispered, as she moved her gaze to
the other side of the room, absently falling onto her wall clock. "This sucks." she said
aloud. Slowly, she pulled her legs out from underneath her, and walked out of the room. As
she walked downstairs, all she noticed was clocks in the house. They seemed to be haunting
her. When she stepped out onto her foyer, she saw someone reading the paper. She knew it
was her mother. Alyson's heart skipped a beat, and she turned around to go back inside
the house. She was in no mood to see her mother., especially after she forced Alyson to
leave her father. Alyson's dad Greg lives in California, and when Alyson spent the summer
with her dad, she discovered she wanted to stay with her dad instead of her mother. So
her parents went to court, and her mother decided to have a 'mental breakdown' to win
her daughter back. Well, it worked. The judge took Andrea, her mother's, side.
"Alyson." her mom whispered. The person's voice was deep and soothing.
Alyson turned around and watched the familiar person pull down the paper to reveal their
face.
"DAD!" Alyson shrieked and ran toward her father. "What are you,..how did
you..why are you..when did you..-" she began. Her father kissed her forehead and looked
her over.
"Did you think I was going to let your mother win?" he paused and kissed
her forehead. "It has only been six months since I last saw you." Greg and Alyson laughed,
and exchanged another hug.
"How did you get in?" Alyson asked her father. He smiled and pointed
toward my house.
"A friend of yours..I think her name was Amanda..she said she knew where
your mother hid the key." he said, previewing the keys to Alyson. She giggled, grabbed her
fathers hands, and pulled him into the house.
"Dad..How long can you stay?" she asked. Greg raised an eyebrow and
looked deep into Alyson's eyes.
"Um,..thats the thing. Honey, I want you to come back to California with
me!" he said. Suddenly everything around Alyson stopped. The ground seemed to fall, and
all the clocks in the house stopped.
"Dad I..I..-" she trailed off. Looking around the kitchen, Alyson noticed the
walls seemed to be closing in. "I..dad..I..do we..uhh." she sighed. Greg looked at his
daughter and touched her chin with his hand. Pushing her face up, their eyes connected.
"I'm staying for a few days at Holiday Inn, just a few streets away." he
paused. "Aly, please come with me.." he stopped and kissed her forehead. "Here's the
number, call me when you want to talk. I have to go now..-"
"Dad! Wait.." Alyson interrupted. "What would you do if..if I asked you to
move here? In Tulsa?" Greg raised an eyebrow.
"Baby, you know I'd love to do that..but my life is in California..my job,
my..my girlfriend..-" he stopped and moved his hands by his sides.
"Girlfriend..dad...." Alyson thought she was going to die. "What if I said I
had a boyfriend here..in Tulsa. What if I told you he was Zachary Hanson..then would you
want to pull me from him?" Her father smiled.
"Your dating Zachary Hanson?" he asked. Alyson nodded.
"Sorta..he's in California..- oh my god!" she shrieked. "Dad..he's in your
city..oh my god.." Alyson felt a fluster of emotional joy pour over her body. Greg smiled and
thought for a moment.
"Let's make a deal." he decided. "You spend two weeks in Sacramento with
me..and if you decide you want to stay..stay..if you decide your life here in Tulsa is more
important..then leave." Greg sighed. Alyson jumped up on her toes and gave her father a
huge hug.
"Oh dad." she whispered, and pulled away quickly when she heard a loud
sigh.
"Greg!" Alyson's mother shrieked and grabbed Alyson by the back of her
shirt. "Alyson go to your room." Alyson gasped.
"You can't." she said. "Dad..tell her." Andrea (her mom) gave Greg a
demanding look, and tugged Alyson further away from her father.
"I'm taking you to court again. You can't cheat our daughter out of
happiness." Greg said. Alyson suddenly felt nauseated. Zac's face flashed through her
thoughts, and several of her friends, and crushes, and even her school and happiness came
crashing in too.
"Mom.." she began, but then stopped when Andrea threw her backwards
toward the kitchen counter. Alyson fell onto her backside, and she cracked her head
against the open dishwasher "Ouch." she shrieked. Greg stepped past Andrea and stood
over Alyson.
"What is your problem Andrea?" he yelled, reaching down and pulling Alyson
to her feet. Alyson shrieked in pain, as her father touched her head. Blood clung to his
fingertips, and silver slithers of metal shined in the blood. "Aly doesn't deserve this from
you. Andrea, I'm taking her home with me. Andrea shrieked and went to grab Alyson.
"Give her back. Alyson come here! ALYSON!" she cried. "Give her back!"
Greg covered Alyson in his arms, and her pulled her toward the foyer. Andrea shrieked
again, and fell to her knees. Alyson tasted and choked on her tears. Her father carefully
stepped her down the stairs and toward his low rider.
"Dad we can't leave her like that..dad please." Alyson begged. Greg kissed
her forehead.
"We'll come back." he lied and lowered her into the passenger seat. "Let's
get you to the hospital."
Isaac placed Zoe into her crib and walked out of the room., and into the living
room.
"You can get in the shower now." Mrs. Hanson said as she kissed Ike's
cheek.
"Thanks mom, but I'll pass. I'm too awake to take a shower..now!" he
whispered. Taylor walked into the room, and plopped down onto a chair next to the
bathroom. They were in their tour bus, on their way home.
"Did you get her to sleep?" Tay whispered, not risking anything. Everybody
had tried to get Zoe to sleep, but everytime Ike was the only successi'.
"Mmm." Isaac replied, laying himself down on the couch.
"I can't wait to get home..I'm really starting to miss the 5 am dog calls."
Zac said loudly as he walked into the room.
"SHHH!" Both Taylor and Isaac warned. "I just got the baby to sleep, and
I'm not about to spend two more hours listening to you screech out 'Lay Your Head' when
you don't even know the words!" Ike said, closing his eyes and rubbing them. Taylor
snorted and held back a huge laugh.
"Shut up." Zac said, punching Tay in the shoulder. Taylor moved away and
turned his head to the right, resting it on the arm of the chair. "This is getting alittle
agitating, huh?"
"Agitating?" Isaac laughed. "Who in this world taught you that word?"
"Actually," Tay pointed. "It's not a word. Amanda said some people just
wanted to use a different form of saying aggravating, so they mixed two defections and
pronunciations together and came up with agitating." Zac laughed and nodded his head.
"Very true." he added. Isaac laid, stunned by his brother's sudden wave of
correction.
"Whatever." he groaned and flipped himself over on his belly. "We'll be
home soon, then you can go play with your little ol' girlfriend Alyson..so don't get your
boxers in a knot." Taylor laughed and crawled up in the chair. His feet just almost off the
chair.
"She's not my girlfriend.." Zac paused. "Hey guys.."
"Hmm?" Tay groaned.
"How do you when a girl wants to be your girlfriend?" Zac whispered. Isaac
turned over and his eyes met Taylor's.
"I'm not really sure..I've never had a girlfriend..remember?" Tay admitted.
"I know..but still, you guys have been around longer than I have to admit,
you should atleast have some clue on what girls are like." Zachary said. Taylor and Isaac
both dropped their shocked reactions, and looked directly at Zac.
"I don't know..she just..flirts may be." Isaac said. Zac let a smile fall across
his face. "Uh-oh, whats the deal Zac?"
"She kissed me."
"When? Who..Alyson?" Taylor asked, his eyes wide. Zac rolled his eyes.
"Forget it, never mind." Zac said. He wasn't sure talking to his brother's
about Alyson right now would help..he was feeling homesick after all. And Alyson would just
make it worse. Isaac sat up and reached for Zac.
"Now way bub, your stuck." Isaac paused. "What happened?" Zac pulled
from Ike's grasp and leaned over alittle bit on the floor. Rolling over, he laid on his
stomach and propped his head up by his arms.
"Before we went to New York, she brought me behind the high school, to
the old soccer field and-
"Wait. Alyson brought you to the locked up soccerfield..that things been
haunted for years..Zac, whats the deal?" Taylor stated. Zac ignored his remark and
continued.
"She kissed me." he said. Isaac pondered for a moment.
"Well, not to be to rude about this but, if she kisses you of course she likes
you ya dumbbell!" he laughed. Taylor snorted with laughter and couldn't help but gag.
"How stupid could you be? You did kiss her back, didn't you?" he had to ask.
"No, I pushed her in the mud, of course I kissed her back!" Zac said,
crawling to his knees and getting up. "You guys weren't much help."
"How were we suppose to help? There was nothing we could have done."
Taylor replied.
"Zac, c'mon, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she likes you."
"Well maybe it does!" Zac yelled, and walked out of the room. Taylor and
Isaac exchanged glances and started to laugh. Suddenly, Zac walked into the room again.
"I forgot my backpack." he said rudely, reached down and grabbed his back, then turned
around and walked back out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Zoe screamed and
started to cry. Taylor flung his head back and laughed so hard tears fell down his pink
cheeks.
"ZAC! YOUR DEAD!" Isaac yelled, as he approached Zoe's crib. Here we go
again!
