Epilogue

Zac carried another box into Taryn’s new apartment. He flopped down on the living room floor next to Iris among many other boxes just like it.

“Geez, Taryn,” he said. “How much stuff can three people own?”

Taryn, who was trying to figure out which box held bathroom items, chuckled. “I appreciate you guys helping us, Zac,” she said.

Taylor and Isaac hauled two more boxes into the apartment. Isaac noticed that Clara had dozed off in her swing, and tucked a blanket under her head so that it wasn’t cocked in such an awkward fashion. He turned and caught Taryn’s gaze. They exchanged a warm, loving smile.

Iris leaned backward against a box. “I hope this is the last time we have to move for a while,” she said. “I’m getting kinda sick of it.”

Taylor laughed and lay down on the floor next to Zac. “I know I don’t want to unload all this stuff again,” he said.

Taryn grinned. “I think we’re ready to put down roots,” she said. “I’d kind of like to stay in one place for a while myself.”

Isaac walked over to Taryn and drew her into a hug. “This is going to be so great, having you all here,” he said quietly. “And who knows, maybe the next time we move you it might be into a house of our own.”

Taryn stood on her tiptoes and kissed the tip of Isaac’s nose. “One thing at a time,” she said.

“Baby steps,” Isaac replied with a smile.

Taryn nodded. “Baby steps,” she said.

Taryn and Isaac looked up and noticed that Iris, Taylor and Zac had all fallen asleep on the floor. They stood with their arms around each other, watching their families sleep as a Bryan Adams CD played softly.

Forever
We will be
Together
A family
The more I get to know you
Nothin' can compare
With all of my heart
Ya know I'll always be
Right there ...

Isaac noticed Taryn try to stifle a yawn. "Want to join them?" he asked quietly.

Taryn nodded. She and Isaac found a space on the living room floor and curled up together as Bryan Adams sang them to sleep.
