Annual Tulsa Christmas Powwow
The 1999 Christmas dance took place at the Tulsa Convention Center on
Sunday, December 19th. Here are some pictures that show the dancers,
vendors, families and friends that make a POWWOW a special event.
The MC was Tim Tallchief and he had many fine people helping him
to assure that everyone had a good time.
Shelby Fay, Miss Caddo, and her mother got the dance started
and the drums warmed up!
David Eveningthunder arrived from Alabama and set up a very nice display
of his art.
He also has books, calendars and other arts and crafts to
sell. It is always nice to stop and visit with David, even nicer to take
home some of his artwork!
This dance was fun! I have to admit I don't remember the name of it! If
you do, please email me and let me know. Everyone was moving up and down
and around the circle
and it was plain that dancers and watchers were
enjoying themselves.
The color of everyone's feathers, regalia, the flags, the vendors items
made it pleasing to the eye and tempting on the pocketbook.
This banner is seen at many POWWOWS and reminds us all of our blessings
and
those with special blessings that need and give the gifts of life to
help one another.
The singers were really getting the dancers to move and get in the
spirit of the dance.
Flags and Head Dresses stood proudly at the announcer's table and
were reminders of loyalty, courage, and tradition.
I had to leave before the evening really got into full swing. Other
commitments.
But I will be sure that next year's Tulsa Christmas Dance
gets priority
on my calendar. See you there!
