The “ARROW” 1881, Cutter

The Arrow, of 10 tons, and owned at Riverton, was totally wrecked at Okai Paihi, Foveaux Strait, on the morning of May 1, 1881. The vessel was lying at anchor when, the wind blowing strongly from the sea, her cables parted and she drifted onto the rocks. Captain Pollard, who commanded the Arrow, and the two members of the crew succeeded in reaching the shore, but all three had narrow escapes from being drowned. The cargo was saved, but the cutter was completely wrecked, her bottom being washed out.
