The "KATE" 1857

Kate, schooner; The vessel was wrecked at Toi Toi Harbour (now Toetoes Bay) on December 7, 1857. When the Kate was in the narrowest part of the channel and the wind suddenly changed and drove her on the rocks. Her keel was broken off and the vessel immediately filled with water.

The Kate was a schooner of 14 tons register, built at Sawyers Bay, Otago Harbour, and was commanded by Captain McAuley.
