Map of Cappadocia

Cappadocia

Cappadocia was the largest province of Asia Minor, located in what is today eastern Turkey. It was bounded on the north by Pontus, to the east by Syria and Armenia, on the south by Cilcia and to the west by Lycaonia. Cappadocia became more easily accessible to points south, including Jerusalem, after the Romans constructed roads (see Ancient Rome) through the "Cilcian Gates" in the Tarsus range - roads, which despite the Roman empire's disdain for Christians, actually helped the Gospel to spread.
