Origins of the Gangrel
So you wish to know some of your clans history and the origins of the Gangrel?
Vast is time, and memory is only brief recollections of what once was life, something similar to us perhaps.
How to begin, not with the creation of the world as its history is more ancient than even the oldest of us can grasp in realities truth, but from the beginnings of our time and of our blood.
Once there was a place on this earth now know as the Garden, some know it as the Garden of Eden there are many other names but there it is that our beginnings lay. The stories of Adam and Eve may be true in some sense but who knows in what way.
But before Eve there was another a first wife, made as was Adam. This wife named then as now, Lilith. Lilith being strong of body and will would not lie down and follow Adam as Adam demanded. It is this, which was to lead to her being cast from the Garden and left to seek her own future alone.
In the wilderness she was left to wander and survive, of those times I will say little but they were hard and made worse by her state of pregnancy. It was here that she gave birth to her children, midwived by animals. Each was gifted with a child, save the serpent, as his child was stillborn. Each child grew to become what we now call the Lycanthropes.
The child raised by the wolves, now named Ennoia the immortal, took a mate from the pack when she came of age. Her children were part wolf and part man. They would later live to become the creatures known as the Lupines, the werewolves.
Through many paths and reasons it was that she came to a city, some say it was Enoch, the strangeness of the gathering of people was curious and she went among them to satisfy herself of the curiosity and of new company. Her beauty and wild nature was greatly remarked upon and won her many admirers and lovers. But she was of the wild and the wolf and so soon these lead her to be cast forth after many battles between her lovers, fuel by their jealousy for one another. The children of these unions would one day be the Gypsies, our nearest kin. Guard them well.
Wandering the world for many years, with her beauty undiminished she eventually caught the attention of a Son of Caine. It was he that swayed her to return to Enoch, now that Enoch which many Kindred talk of in hushed awe and respect and which to this day holds so much resentment also know as the First city.
The details of how she came to be one of the Kindred is not clear but there are tales which may provide some evidence of which of the childer of Caine embraced her.
From Ennoia we are kin to the Lupines and the Gypsies, it is from her that we talk with the tongue of animals and our ability to change our form. She has also passed to us her wonderment of the world and need to view it all, our restlessness to see what we can of the world. So we remember Ennoia the Immortal our mother.
As to other matters you will hear many things, you will have to decide for yourself.
For example the Ravnos tell a different tale, but strange is it, that they believe their own falsehood.
