When Niobe was about ten years old her village was attacked by an army of barbarians. They annihilated the village killing everyone in sight. Luckily, Niobe managed to escape but unfortunatly Lucien did not. Niobe found him in what was left of their home with a knife in his back lying in a pool of his own blood. It was then that she vowed revenge on her father's killers. She picked up a sword and quickly learned to use it determined to find her father's killers. she travelled all over Greece and the surrounding lands in search of the barbarians fighting anyone who got in her way.
Word quickly spread of Niobe's vendetta and soon she had amassed an army of her own of men from other villages who had survived the attacks of the vicious barbarians. Her army roamed all over fighting in various wars and Niobe soon caught the attention of Ares. The war god, seeing the girl's strength and determination, took her under his wing and improved upon her fighting skills. It wasn't long before Niobe was leading the army of Ares against any who dared to oppose her. She soon became a favorite of the god of war and was placed under his personal protection.
During this time Niobe had no one to care for her, aside from her army who merely worshiped the bloodshed she could provide. Niobe began to grow hard and cold, caring about nothing but the next battle. She began killing ruthlessly and recklessly, plunging her army into war after war, which pleased Ares greatly. She, of course, emerged victorious every time, but victory can only last for so long.
Niobe's army met up with the barbarians she had been searching for. The battle fought was long and hard and would become Niobe's last. Her formerly undefeated army was decimated. Despite the fierceness and determination with which they fought the barbarians still won. During this battle Niobe was severly wounded and left for dead. Her army fled in terror never to be heard from again.
Days later Niobe was found by a group of children from a nearby village. They took her home with them where she was cared for by the village healer. She remained with them for some time studying with the healer and expanding her knowledge of herbal lore. Niobe became a new person. She fell in love with the healer who's name was Nichos. He helped her to remember what it was like to live again. He taught her to laugh and to care once more. Of course, when Ares discovered what had become of his prized warrior he was furious. He went to Niobe and tried to convince her to come back to him. But Niobe refused wanting to remain in the village with Nichos. This only served to further enrage the god of war and in his fury he lashed out and killed Nichos.
Niobe was devistated. Nichos was the only man she had ever loved and Ares had killed him. She became very angry with Ares and vowed to take her revenge on him. Ares merely laughed knowing that Niobe would never really harm him, nor could she. She loved him deep down, though she refused to admit it. But Ares knew. He took her back to his temple though she was still distraught over Nichos's death. Having no where else to turn Niobe remained with Ares serving him as a priestess for a few years. Now, determined to make a new life for herself, she wanders from place to place in search of adventure.
