SALFORD GAME 1998 (I think)

A fully deserved win for the Saints, but I feel we only showed our true
form in two "Purple Headed" patches (mind the wet one luv!) in both halves.

Unfortunately, I couldn't be there in the wind and rain with the faithful 4,000
and odd tonight, but I did shout along with the rest of you from the comfort
of my armchair whilst cuddling a cool beer!

For me - the Man Of The Match, goes to Sean Long - who seemed to be everywhere
on the park tonight - and was involved in almost every try scored - reminiscent of a certain
Mr Goulding (who needs him anyway) who is rumoured to be off to the Shark Pit pretty
soon. (I don't normally put the words "Goulding" & "pretty" in the same sentence -forgive
me). Well played Sean - but you've got to lose that Wigan accent mate.

Of the others that impressed, were Cunningham again (but he wasn't up to his normal
standards - or have we come to expect too much of him?), and Apollo had a good 1st half -
but petered out in the second (welcome back - sir).

Some superb tries were scored tonight - and my personal favourite was the one by (Oh shit
I forgot his name - the new bloke on the wing that has a look of Shaun Edwards - you know)
just for the look of sheer joy on his face when he scored his very first senior team try
(reminded me of the times when me and Mrs Janus used to …………………….oh never mind) ,
I'm sure there'll be a few more in the future for this young whippersnapper.

Salford played their usual "hard man" routine throughout the match, which unfortunately
didn't end up in fisty-cuffs ( I would have loved to have seen Forber & Hulme get a snotting
from Danny Arnold). (Or is it the other way round - I get confused at my age you know).

The highlight of the game for me personally - was the incident where Arnold took a
"Glasgow Kiss" from that bloke in the red shirt - it did look as if he may have took a bad
knock and would have had to retire from the game of Rugby League forever - alas he got up
and went back to his old fumbling stumbling ways again - how long do we have to put up with
this "DICKHEAD"?

In closing, I thought the referee had a pretty decentish game- I've always liked Mr
Cummings (not in the biblical sense you understand) but I think he is one of the best refs in
the game at the moment (I've had lessons from Stevo - on how to brown-nose referees.)

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my alternative look at the match, unfortunately, I won't be able
to do a report on the away games - cos I cant be arsed going to them - so - until next
time………………………………TOODLE PIP!
