"Just give me that rock and roll music, any old way you choose it...."
“....and who’s that?” Jimmy asked with grin plastered on his face.
Kid stared transfixed at the gorgeous woman before him. She was donned in lace and radiated beauty beyond anything he had ever seen. Not taking his eyes off of her, he smiled and answered Jimmy’s previous question, “My Girl.”
Lou walked timidly forward and extended her hand to him in a ladylike fashion. “Are you sure you approve?” she teased at his starstruck face.
He started to speak, but only a small squeak came out. Lou obviously did not like the sound, and recoiled her fingers from his light grasp. “You don’t like it...you don’t approve of it or me, do you?”
Kid found a new strength and spoke as quickly as he could, “No...NO, it’s not that,” he realized that he was not getting anywhere as quickly as he should, “Oh Lou that’s not it. I mean sugar pie honey bunch, you know that I love you!” He realized that she was deliberately trying to rile him, and he played along by taking her hand, “I mean after all, You ARE the sunshine of my life.”
Jimmy choked and waved his hand in front of his face, “Am I the only one that’s feeling a heat wave in here?”
Louise smiled mirthfully, knowing that she had successfully made him feel insecure. Not that she was trying to be nasty...it was just a little bit fun to play with him now and then. “Okay, then let’s get going.”
Cody, Noah, Buck, and Ike sat mounted and ready to go to the Sunday picnic in town. Lou and Rachel stepped outside side by side and met up with their remainder of their charming escorts. Kid and Jimmy led them out to the buckboard and within moments they were on their way.
As they approached the bustling activity, Lou glared at all of the young men and ladies in their fine clothes and suddenly felt quite nervous. “What do I do?” Lou whispered to Rachel, who had experienced a good many social gatherings.
Rachel squeezed her arm gently and urged her forward, “Just stand by me.”
The other boys straightened their suites and glanced at all of the pretty girls, and Cody sighed as his eyes met up with a stunning brunette with a tender smile. He cleared his throat and noted that neither he nor his companions had moved an inch since their arrival. “Well, boys,” Cody began with a shrug and a grin of excitement, “it’s too late to turn back now.”
After clapping his hands and rubbing them together, Cody took after the woman in question and snickered to himself, “Boy, would I like to get to know you!”
A few minutes later, a small band of four musicians came out onto the podium and began to strum a tune that inspired the gentlemen to go around in search of partners. A charming man came up to Louise and extended his hand, “May I?” he asked, his alluring green eyes giving her all but the choice to refuse.
She looked over at Kid and expected his face to seethe with jealousy. However, much to her surprise, she met up with his nod of affirmation and a slight grin which gave her the “ok” to have a good time and enjoy herself.
The young gentleman began to escort her towards the music, and Kid gently leaned over and whispered to Lou with a wink, “Lou, have fun and enjoy yourself, but be sure to save the last dance for me.”
