It was early Sunday morning and Rachel Dunne was sitting outside on the porch watching the rising sun.
She could tell, even this early in the morning that it was going to be a beautiful, sunny day. It was about time they had a break in the weather, she thought. It had been awful, wet and windy for the past week. And unlike yesterday, it looked like there would be no rain and the sun would shine all day.
And she was grateful for that, not knowing how she could stand another one of those long days stuck inside listening to the boys and Lou argue. It was making her crazy
Rachel was about to go inside to get breakfast when she noticed somebody approaching the station. "Who can it be now?" she thought out aloud. As the rider came closer she recognised Kid and it looked like he was hurt.
She ran past the bunkhouse, "Everybody get up!" Rachel yelled at the rider's, "Kid's back and he's hurt! Come with me." In a flash they were up and dressed.
"Kid! Are you Alright?" Lou screamed when she saw that he had been shot. Rachel looked towards Cody, "He needs help, go get the doctor."
"It's alright, it's not that bad" Lou tried to comfort the young rider, "It's just a graze, you're going to get better." A short time later the doctor arrived down by the station He directed the riders back so he could take a closer look, "Stand back."
after a quick examination he said, "He's lost a lot of blood, but the wound isn't too deep, if he get's plenty of rest everyday for the next week he should be as good as new. we gotta get out of this place though and get him inside.
Buck and Lou helped Kid to his feet, "lean on me." Lou offered and they went towards the bunkhouse, taking it slowly step by step until they were inside. Not too long after, Teaspoon arrived, asking how he was.
"He's alive The doctor said it was nothing too serious. But I won't be satisfied until he rests for a while." Rachel replied.
Lou sat beside Kid’s bunk, their hands together. As she noticed him drifting off Lou got up to leave. Sensing her go, he spoke to her, "Don’t leave yet, come back down. All I want is you by my side." Lou returned his smile and her position by his bed, "I’ll stay here then, right here waiting until you wake up.
As she watched him sleep, Lou was onceagain reminded of the kiss between herself and Jimmy. "I’m going out of my head." She said to herself. She was full of all kinds of emotions, of confusion and even guilt, which hadn’t gone away. She knew she had betrayed Kid, but Jimmy made her feel worse by virtually ignoring her since they had returned from Elias’ hanging. She felt torn and decided to confront Jimmy about it.
"Jimmy Jimmy." Lou had to shout out to him twice before she was sure he was listening. "Can we talk about what happened between us?"
"Not now Lou," Jimmy replied as he continued chopping wood, "I don’t want to talk about it."
"But I do. You know the more you ignore me and this kiss, the worse it’s going to get."
I’m sorry Lou, it was a big mistake. It won’t happen again. It was our first and last kiss."
Lou gazed at him with teardrops in her eyes, "It didn’t mean anything to you at all?" Jimmy avoided facing her, knowing if he saw her crying he wouldn’t be able to deny his feelings anymore. How can I tell her "I’m crazy for you" he thought to himself as he thought of the beautiful girl standing before him. Instead though he said, "Yeah, it did. I kissed the girl of my best friend and believe me if I could take it back I would."
Not wanting to hear anymore, Lou stormed off past Jimmy in the direction of the barn. Neither noticed Jesse sneaking off, unsure of what to do with the information he had just come across.
Jimmy watched Lou as she walked to the barn. If only she knew how much she meant to me, how much I want you to throw your arms around me he thought before softly saying, "I’ve been thinking about you, All day and all of the night. I just don’t know what to do with myself and what’s worse there is Always something there to remind me, that’s why I can’t be alone with you. But I’m gonna be strong, you belong with Kid. I’ll never get over you and I’ll never find another you but you can’t get close to me." Then he chuckled, "I must be losin’ it. I’m spending too much time by myself.
Rachel, Cody, Buck and Kid were all in the bunkhouse when Jesse burst in. Buck was sitting by himself doing some kind of Trick with a knife. Cody and Rachel were playing card games.
"Hey guess what?" Jesse exclaimed excitedly, "Jimmy and Lou kissed each other!" When they all just stared at him he continued, "It’s true. I heard em talking about it. When they took that man to hang..."
"Stop!" Kid who had been laying silently, screamed, and then he made a move to get up.
"Where do you think you’re going?" Rachel questioned him. To which he replied, "where do you think?"
"Honey, I don’t care how well you think you are, or what you think you need to do. You are not strong enough to be out of bed yet."
"It don’t hurt anymore" then he walked out the door. The others sat there throwing stunned glances, not sure whther to go after him or not.
"Bigmouth strikes again" Buck muttered in reference to Jesse’s outburst.
"That’s just like Jesse James, he’s not very good with secrets. Do any of you know where Jimmy is right now?" Rachel asked grimly.
Cody spoke up, "Teaspoon’s office I think...... you know Kid needed to here this right now like he needs a bullet in the head."
"Why hello Jimmy. What can I do for you?" Teaspoon asked the young rider as he walked into his office.
"Um, I have something I want to talk to you about." Jimmy asked hesitantly. "What is it son? No, let me guess it’s about a girl. Am I right?" Teaspoon teased.
"Yeah, but I don’t know If I can talk about it."
"You know you can confide in me Jimmy."
"Well Teaspoon you see, well I kissed a girl, a girl I can’t name -"
Teaspoon interupted, "Wouldn’t happen to be a certain brown eyed girl would it?"
"What makes you say that?" Jimmy asked warily.
"Because of the way a certain young man is glaring at you right now."
Jimmy turned to find himself face to face with a very angry Kid. "Get you gun Jimmy." Kid ordered him.
"What are you talking ‘bout Kid? I don’t need a gun."
"Yes you do, coz I’m calling you out Jimmy Hickok."
"Look Kid, you don’t really want to do this. I know you’re feeling bad right now, but.."
"You can’t imagine how bad I feel, how low and empty. You can’t feel the pain that you put there. We were supposed to be friends."
Teaspoon stepped in as Kid started pointing his gun around. "Lay down your guns Kid." Kid didn’t protest as Teaspoon removed them. But he didn’t hesitate in immediately giving Jimmy a punch in the face.
By now Rachel, Cody, Buck, Jesse and Lou had arrived tear Kid and Jimmy off each other.
What happened next? Well Kid needed some time to cool off but then he and Lou got back that lovin’ feeling, sealed it with a kiss at their own white wedding and after that who knows. It’s a neverending story, but I’d like to think that they were happy together and had lot’s of good times.
