Subj: Sophrenia (sp?) Caroline MEDLIN, b. Levy Co., FL ?, m. Wm. Nobles, my g-grndfthr Wm. Nobles and Caroline Medlin (Sophrenia? Caroline Medlin) were my gr-grandparents, and parents of my grandfather, Orris Nobles, who was born 8 March 1891, in Levy Co., FL. Brothers of his that we know about were Tom and Ed (may be their middle names). Our grandfather Orris Nobles was taken from Levy Co. at some time when he was a boy or young man by his older brother Ed, first to Port Tampa and eventually to Ft. Pierce. At sometime in his travels, he met our grandmother, Annie Adela Matthews, who was living with her family in Wrens, GA, and it was in Wrens where they married on 24 June 1920. He left her there to work for some banking concern, trying to get banks opened up in Fla., and in his travels, decided to settle for a while in Ft. Pierce, FL. Annie, who was pregnant, traveled from Wrens, GA, to Ft. Pierce, FL, and met him there, with their newborn daughter, Eunice Carolyn Nobles who had been born during the trip. Eunice is my aunt who I live with and care for now. She is in the secondary stages of Altzheimer's. She has never known her father's family, with the exception of a few of her uncles (Tom, Ed and ?, and their wives who we don't know), and she has expressed for some time that she would have liked to have been closer to them if she knew who they were. Her father went to the VA hospital in Dade County for his heart problems and died there on 23 Oct. 1948. Our grandmother Annie died in Ft. Pierce, FL, in March, 1958.

Annie Adela Matthews and Orris Nobles had 3 more children: Annie Orris "Nan" Nobles, Agnes Lucille "Pig" Nobles and a son who died soon after birth, known as Little Brother Nobles.

We would like to find out about our Medlin and Nobles families. Do you have Sophrenia Caroline Medlin's family tree information?

We think that Sophrenia (or Sophronia?) Caroline Medlin's parents were:

Sophronia (sp?) Washington Davis, b. abt. 1822, daughter of Mary Ann S. Hagan (was Hagan her maiden name?) and Zachariah Davis. We think they were married in Appling, GA in abt. 1824, and that maybe he was a land surveyor.

and

Willis Robert Medlin, b. ?, married Sophronia W. Davis in abt. 1850 in FL?, d. ?. We think that Sophronia Davis was his first wife, the mother of our gr-grandmother Sophronia? Medlin, his 2nd wife being Elender Starling Nobles (she and her 1st husband, Saunders Nobles, were the parents of our gr-grandfather, William Nobles).

We say we think, because that's information I have gathered from census and other on-line places in the past several years, but others think I should find relatives before I say these are actually related people. However, my thinking is how can I find relatives if I don't try contacting people who know more about these people and other Medlins?

Thank you.

I have begun to search a little for a Medlin line in Denton County, Tx. I have a William and Rebecca Gibson that came to Denton county in about 1844. Their children included a Martha that married a ____Medlin.

I found her as a widow on the 1880 census along with her mother, sister and brother. I think that the some of the Gibson line is buried in the Medlin cemetery and therefore think more than Martha married a Medlin.

Does anyone have the children for William Owen Medlin, Sr. I am a descendant of the Jarrett Willingham who was involved with him in Knox Co. TN deeds. I believe that Jarrett's father, Thomas, who left a will in Henderson Co. KY admitted for probate in 1819, may have been married to a Susan Medlin, probably as a 2nd wife. He refers to her as his "companion" and says people refer to her as Susey Malin or some of the other variations for Medlin, or as Susey Willingham. Because the Willinghams were devout early, early Baptists, even though the wording of the will would lead one to believe that Thomas and Susey were not married, I am quite sure they were, though I have not found a marriage for them. The Willingham family, most of them, moved to Henderson by 1799. However, my John Willingham, son of Jarrett, who married Fanny Weldon, daughter of John Weldon who sold land to William Owen Medlin (the name has three spellings in the deed) in Knox Co TN, and John and his wife, Nancy, did not move to Henderson county until about 1810, when John Weldon, a Baptist minister, was called to be the pastor of Graves Creek Baptist church, the earliest Baptist church in Henderson county. Thomas and Jarrett Willingham were founding members. From the wording of Thomas' will, we know that his children, Isaac and Sophia, were also children of <>Susey, and it's possible she may have been the mother of three of his other unmarried children. We do not know where or when Susey died. It was possibly in Henderson county, but the location of Thomas' grave is unknown to present day descendants. Thanks for any assistance with this puzzle piece.

Charlie Thompson Medlin was born 13 May 1883, he died 17 June 1933. He was married to Hattie Louise Griffin who was born 1 nov.1886 and died 18 Feb. 1964. they were married about 1908? They had 3 daughters and 3 sons. I know that they are buried in Spears creek Baptist Church yard here in SC. That church is a family church all the Medlins and related family members are barried there. Charlie is my gggrandfather. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.
