Lewis and Rachel Medlin were among the first members of the New Hope Baptist Church of Bedford County, Tennessee.The New Hope Baptist Church was organized 1 April 1809. Lewis and Rachel Medlin organized United Baptist Church in Platte County, Missouri. (Note: I have been told this church is located in Moniteau County, Missouri {see Mount Gilead Baptist Church on this site} I have also been told it is located in Cole County, Missouri)The Medlin Family organized the Lonesome Dove Baptist Church in Tarrant County, Texas. Meetings were held in private homes until the fall of 1846 when a house was built in a grove south of Judge Morehead's old place. The church was organized on Saturday before the 3rd Sunday in Feburary 1846 with 12 members. The 12 were Medlin's and close family relations.
