Welcome to the third edition of the Red River Almanac.

We had our second shoot Saturday.  Five people shot and it turns out that the new bay is just perfect.  It looks like we'll continue to use that bay as it worked so well.  We shot two long rounds and final times are as follows:

Shooter                            Round One        Round Two            Total

Marshal Robert Wolfe   207.0                 164.46                371.46
Kentucky Tess               244.42                217.43                461.85
Raven                             204.66                149.52                354.18
Viper                               251.78                253.36                505.14
Riata Rangler                 225.34                140.56                365.90

Several people were shooting with new weapons and weren't used to them yet, which had an impact on their scores.  We're in the "settling in" stage and learning what works.  With less borrowed weapons the rounds went smoother at the loading and unloading table.  Actually everything went smoother.  I had a lot of fun and am looking forward to next month.

Greetings and welcome to the second edition of the Red River Almanac.

We had our first shoot today.  Seven people competed, and I think we all had a lot of fun.  Due to getting a late start, having to explain the rules, and a slowdown at the loading table from guns being borrowed, it went well.  I think once we get a few shoots under our belts, it will run a bit more smoothly.

Two people who weren't even intending to shoot today jumped in and participated.  They did well and I think they got the bug...  I think it's pretty nice that three out of our seven shooters were female.  But then, maybe I'm just biased.  (grinning)

One way of telling if people are hooked: all the comments of "I've got to get..."

Janet brought her digital camera, and pictures were taken.  I have some of them on the website.

A couple more shoots and we'll have the cash to upgrade our insurance to meet SASS guidelines for an affiliated group.

Remember, we are looking at putting up a recruiting table at the upcoming gunshow.  This will interfere with our next shoot, as it's the same weekend.  One question we need to discuss: Do we hold the shoot and then go to the gunshow?  Or do we just work the gun show?  Let's discuss this on the mailing list.

Greetings,                                                                 15 July 2000

This is the first edition of the Red River Almanac, the newsletter of the Red River Pioneers.  We held our first meeting today and here is how it went:

The meeting was attended by Robert Kern (Marshal Robert Wolfe), Teresa Wakefield, Skip Hensley, Chris Kirtland, and Glenn Martin.

First order of business was electing a president, match coordinator, victim, whatever you want to call the poor fool stuck with organizing this mess.  I (Robert Wolfe) was unanimously elected.  (Teach me to step out of the room during a meeting.)

Next we voted on a group name.  Red River Pioneers was chosen.  Again, unanimously.

Match fees were set at $10 for members, and $15 for non-members, first time shooters (non-members) shoot for $10.  Shoots to be held on the fourth Saturday of the month at the range in Duke at 10 A.M.  Our first shoot will be next Saturday in bays # 4 & 5.  Once they get the pavilion built on bay #6, we'll probably be using that one because it affords more versatility for our type of shooting.

Since we'll be attempting to take photos to have at the gun show booth, please attempt to "dress western" for the shoot next Saturday.  I realize that most people don't have all their guns, gun cart, and leather yet.  Therefore we will be staging the revolvers at a safe place on the shooting line.  Long guns without a cart will be placed at a designated "safe" area.  Some of us with guns have already volunteered to allow ours to be used as loaners so everyone can have fun.

I asked that everyone keep an eye out for props such as wagon wheels, etc.  We decided that further down the road we may have a workday for building props.

We decided that we would attempt to have a booth at the upcoming Altus Gun show the last weekend in August for recruiting purposes.  This is if they don't cancel it this year like they have in the past.

Once we get a bit more organized we'll be having a recruitment barbeque and shoot at the range.  Glenn volunteered to provide and cook the food.

Please come out and support us on our first shoot as we attempt to get things rolling.

Marshal Robert Wolfe
