It's my opinion that several blocks were made in different years and they were put together into a quilt after all blocks were completed.  The reason I believe this is because of the fact that Wilson Medlin's wife's name was not put on his block.  Wilson married in 1871 so his block may have been made before that date.  Lewis Medlin died in 1877 so I believe him and Clarinda's blocks were made after that date.  These facts  lead me to think that the quilt was several years in the making.
The embroidery of the names and flowers is done in all pastel colors.
The quilt has become discolored with age.
It is made 12 inch by 12 inch blocks, 5 blocks long and 5 blocks wide.
There are bows, wheat, and lovely flowers worked into each block.
Oma stated in her letter to me, "I believe the quilt blocks were done by two different people. The names of Ada Medlin and Willie Medlin are in different writing and certainly different embroidery."
In 1991 it was beleived the quilt to be at least 74 years old.
Lewis Medlin and Clarinda (Eads) Medlin's names were embroidered with a black cross in each of their blocks, indicating them to be deceased.  Lewis died in 1874 and Clarinda in 1877.
If the family member was married, his/her block included the name of his/her spouse.
Wilson Medlin was embroidered as a single man.  Wilson married in 1871.
