animal liberation

Before i get into the title topic, i would like to put a direct call to all sceptisists of the animal liberation movment, to read this not as AR propaganda, but as an opertunity to learn what animal liberation is about, to me at least. It is not vandalism, it is not a crime against humanity. It is a call to all the people of every country; please recognize that animals have rights too. They have the right to the freedom they are born for, not the mass scale exploitation by humans they are subjected to.

Okay so your thinking what is animal liberation exactly? For a start animal liberation is a outlet for the animal rights movment. It can come in both legal and illegal forms, both are only for the benifit of the animals which are exploited and killed everyday. The overall term means; the illegal or legal liberation or saving of an animals life, health, or general fredom. This may come in direct liberation of animals from a place were they would normally be exposed to exploitation or death or both, ie a slaughter house, a laboratory, a chemical testing plant, etc. Direct action is also assosiated with the animal liberation movment, this is any action taken on the behalf of animal rights activits for the benifit of animals. This may come in many forms, some legal some illegal.

One of the biggest factors of the animal liberation movment is its directive techniques, which are by most means illegal. The question will usually arise from society, how is animal liberation justifiable in the modern day society we live in.

WHY IS IT JUST?

So your thinking how can an animal liberationist justify the destruction and loss of property, to labs, fur shops etc; well the fact is that animal's do not really have their own rights. They have a form of welfare which keeps them from having no rights what so ever. However over all there isn't a great deal that you cant do to an animal and not be prosecuted for, you can conduct lethal experiments on animal, you can slaughter animals, you can exploit animals, to a human these would clearly be a breech of human rights. If a human was used for lethal experiments would the experimenter be paid? would that be a respected job for a human? the answer of course is no. If this were so then animals would have rights, or rights, equal to that of humans. Considering that humans are nothing more then animals, this seems a little hypocritical of "human rights". So please: meat eaters, next time you use a product of animal exploitation or slaughter, remember that you are consuming what was once a living creature. Then question if your meal was worth the life of another creature.

Before you can really understand the basis of animal liberation you must understand the basics of animal rights. Because their is such a lack of animal rights, there is an imperative need for animal liberation in society. The reason there is such a huge problem when it comes to animal rights? People are just over looking the major factors that animal's are being exploited as a direct result of everyone who is not a vegan. Now if your about ready to close this window off and think just another holier then thou vegan, just read on for a couple more sentences. Ask yourself if you eat animals, just who is to blame for the lack of animal rights? Not wholly the meat eater of course, but you are the one who can make a difference. You are the one who can for a start go vegetarian, or at least abstain from red meat. The other main lack of animal rights in society is based on our mis-education, this is were everyone has an option to make a difference. Of course there are some people who just do not care about animals, this goes without saying unfortunately. But alot of the problems adding to our lack of animal rights legislation's is simply what we have been taught from our dated school nutrition systems, dated medical advice etc. The reason i want to point that out is simply to highlight the fact that when a vegan attempts to communicate to a meat eater why veganism is necessary it just seems so obvious that we (vegans) forget that we are not talking to another vegan. So its not always as simplistic as we would like it to be, please try to remember that next time you think more animal rights propaganda.

MOTIVATION FOR LIBERATION?

First off animal liberation is not always illegal, but it usually is, one of the major illegal portions of animal liberation is the actual liberation process and the animal rights activism that sometimes goes hand in hand with the process. When i refer to animal rights activism i refer to destroying the bi products of animal exploitation and slaughter, i.e. destroying fur coats, attacking animal testing labs, fur shops, butchers etc with grass root terrorist tactics. Animal rights activism mainly aims at hitting the demand of animal products, this kind of extremism is more applicable in larger suburban/city area's, it can work in outer city regional area's mainlly in Australia in the form of piggeries, milking farms, etc.

One of the biggest components of animal liberation is that of the illegality of the movement, that is the actual liberation process of the animals. Personally i feel that this process is the most ironic part of animal liberation, the reason animal liberator's fall back onto such grass root justice is due to a variety of factors. The most important of which is that of frustration, legal animal rights just don't do a whole lot, iam all for legal animal rights, don't get me wrong, but picketing and protesting just don't get a lot of attention. When you are part of a minority movement which you know is for the good of mankind, the facts are right there for everyone to see, yet people still don't care. After a lot of thinking and consideration, intellectual debating, you come to the conclusion that animal liberation is one of the only ways to get instant action for animals. We all know for a fact that it is illegal, but who is to say that what is legal is right? Animal rights activists are not feral kids who get off on throwing a petrol bomb into their local Mc Donald's and spraying a A.L.F on a nearby wall. They are intelligent enough (in most cases) to understand there is a real need for the animal liberation movement. Incase your wondering what the long term affects of animal liberation have on the community are, mainly the realization of a problem associated with animal exploitation in society. Of course this is only the best case scenario, a lot of people view animal liberation as doing more harm to legal animal rights processes then good. However true that is, no one can claim that when successful; animal liberation does get animals free.

It is also important to realize that animal liberation does take the extreme approach most times but not always. By buying a dog from your local pound rather then a pet shop you are effectively saving that creatures life. By attending duck shooting season and offering aid to the shot animals you may effectively be saving its life. Duck shooting and all forms of predatorial hunting by humans is totally unjust, even the odd cases of feral culling is still unjust to a point. I used to believe that such methods of eradication were totally just, but now i no longer believe they are. Mainly because an feral animal isn't there by its own actions, that what makes it feral. So to cull that animal is out of the questing, its our fault its destroying the environment around itself, shooting the animal is not an answer. Culling is just like sweeping a problem under the rug, its not going to stop the problem, some thought has to be put into the solving of the problem. Biological control is the usually the best means of keeping feral animals/insects under control. Culling solves nothing in the long term, and in the short it is barbaric and a total unjust process.

So to conclude i strongly think that if you are a meat eater and you feel animal liberation is un-justifiable then i really think you need to re-adjust your morals. The only thing that is un-just about animal liberation is the fact that it is needed at all! It should be clear that animals have rights, the fact that the few people who care enough to put their time into doing something for animals are labelled criminal is un-just! If your are a vegan and you feel animal liberation is un-just, please do not give up on your thoughts and try to realize that there is always room for self improvement when it comes to what is right and wrong. Alot of things you may have been brought up thinking are right, like eating meat, are simply not. It is the newer generations who need to learn these lessons more then anyone, because it will be their future. Learn from the mistakes of the past and try to keep this planet alive as long as you can. Because at the current rate of world births over-lapping world mortality there isn't going to be a whole lot of animals left in the future. They simply wont have the environments left, because humans will be living on them, or destroying them for malls or high ways. This is the future that our children have to look forward to, we at least owe them the right of having the best environmental ethics.

CONSEQUENCES

As far as getting caught and punished by authorities, it is a viable part of the movement, if you are afraid of going to jail for your cause, then dont involve yourself in illegal activities. After all no one is forcing you to take the animal rights cause to the extreme of illegality, it is a personal choice. It is not in my opinion a crime, to liberate an animal, authoritarian's may see it as illegal, but that is under their legislation's. When you are talking animal rights crimes, you've got to get your morals straight, it is illegal to effectively liberate an animal from exploitation or death, yet it is not illegal to exploit and kill animals. It is illegal however to exploit or kill a human, this is an un-written law, in everyone's mind, what we (humans) would call humane. humane also legalizes the use of animal produce in everyday life, the direct destruction of living breathing animals, for our own ease of living.

So if you see animals as being equal to humans, as far as rights are concerned, then liberation would not be a crime in your mind. Animal liberation does of course impose of other parties, it may lead to the direct bankruptcy of a business, putting many people out of work. If you feel that, the well being of humans is more important then the lives and rights of animals, then you really need to reconsider your stand on animal - human equality. Remember that animals are loosing a life, humans are loosing a job. Who is loosing more here?

But what is really important, our future, our children. It is important to take a positive stand now, because now is when we, can make the greatest impact of all. The impact of a boycotting lifestyle, that will in effect benifit your children, veganism directly conserves the future for generations to come. It conserves the resources of earth, the many complex eco-structures and food chains, the health that will serve your children a long life, it teaches the respect of the earth and animals, and ultimatly themselves. Take a stand now, becasue now is when it makes a difference, one day humans will not have the chance to reverse some of the destruction we are racing towards.

The choice to respect animals and the environment that we are a mere guest, is impreretive. If we cannot even recognise the conceqences of our actions now, how will we ever take an overall positive change for the future of the planet before the damage we are imposing  is even more irraversable. Remember that animal rights is an extremly serious chapter of our future, it is a very serious topic, that we cannot offord to take lightly. If it takes breaking the current law to make people realise that, then what really is legal and illegal? if you cannot tell for yourself then it truly is a dark future for the human race. Becasue until there is a un-divided recognisation of the need of animal rights in our society, we are going to looose more and more of our planets beautiful natural environments.

AR PROPAGANDA

For the un-knowing AR propaganda, is what people who dont wish to accept the fact that animal rights are a necessary requirement of environmental harmony. These are the narrow minded few that choose to ostracize animal rights activism rather then try to understand it, let alone sensitize themselves into believing animals are more then a commodity. Sometimes its easier to classify a movement then to try and understand its view points, and overall accept the truth.

Now iam not saying that by being a vegetarian you need to be a vegan to prove your morals, nor by being a animal rights activist you need to be an animal liberator. Iam simply stating the truth, this is a opionuated text, its formed on my moral stand points, but they are based on the total truth. If you feel that my view points or text's are AR propaganda i think you are missing the point.

The animal rights stand, is about animals, its not about false infomation, if you wish to not belive it then then all you are doing is denying yourself the facts. Just stop and ask yourself, what do i gain from lying about what animals go through, or that they feel pain, or that they are living creatures (until you eat them). If you cannot recognise that for what it is, the truth, then you are far to de-sensatized, remember that when you eat meat, your benifiting an industry which runs on the death of animal's.

 TREND VEGANS

To trend vegan's/animal rights activists; if you cannot see the reason that animals need our help and you feel that being a vegan is cool, then giving the lifestyle up 3 months later, you are missing the point. I urge you to get your head out of your arse and begin to realize that we only get ONE chance at this earth. Once everything is dead except for humans; that sort of thinking will be okay because all you will hurt is yourself. Hopefully it will never come to that and mankind will learn the error of his current ways, which seems somewhat unlikely at the moment. But you can never loose all hope of animals getting the rights they 100% deserve.
