In 1921, Crescent's football team went undefeated under the coaching of the legendary
Velvie Bridal. Mr. Bridal was a pharmacist at the Powell Drug Store and was not paid for his
efforts. The players included Lewis Favor, Orville Good, Dalls Homan, Bill Murry, Ralph Godfrey,
Vern Twombly, Harry Sunderland, John Lawrence, George Goodnight, Merrill Smith, Hershel Myers,
Amos Decker, George Hull, Theo Orr and Harold Shore.
Mary Homan, who married Coach Bridal,
coached the girl's basketball team.
The first baseball team of C.H.S. was organized in 1926. Mote Gray was coach and manager.
The 1926 baseball team of C.H.S. was the first active Baseball Club to take part in high
school athletics, and by the support of Crescent merchants, new uniforms were purchased.
The 1925-26 basketball team won the Mulhull tournament for the first time.
Also during this time, a very active tennis club was formed. Mrs. Kirkpatrick, the math teacher,
was the advisor.
