Duane C. Cutter
Class of 1957
Duane C. Cutter graduated from Crescent High School with the class of 1957. He received a BBA degree in accounting from the University of Oklahoma in 1968. He earned his CPA certificate in the states of Oklahoma and Texas. Duane worked for the same firm, Moak, Hunsaker and Rouse for seventeen years, starting as a staff member, a manager and eventually a partner.
As a partner for Moak, Hunsaker and Rouse, 1974-1983, Duane was in charge of their health care practice and managed health care audits and third party reimbursement services.
In 1983, Moak, Hunsaker and Rouse merged with the national accounting firm of Price Waterhouse L.L.P. Duane became a partner upon the merger and continued to manage the health care clients, including not-for-profit, for-profit and governmental health care entities. He represented health care organizations in resolving disputes with the Federal Medicare Intermediary and analyzing and optimizing their Medicare reimbursements. He evaluated managed care contracts and set up policiies to detect and prevent fraud and abuse.
Duane assisted several small hospitals around Oklahoma in restructuring their business operations, ambulance service or Medicare reimbursements,saving some of them literally millions of dollars per year.
He also represented Price Waterhouse as a public speaker, making speeches and teaching seminars in the areas in which he had expertise, such as strategic planning, restructuring and joint ventures. He became know as the primary health care accountant in the state of Oklahoma and was sometimes referred to as "Mr. Healthcare of Oklahoma".
Although he is now retired, he still does consulting work for other CPA firms and is still in high demand when a problem arises which demands someone with high expertise in the health care, auditing or Medicare reimbursement fields.
Duane and his wife, Mary, are members of North West Twenty-First Church of Christ of Oklahoma City, where is is a deacon, treasurer and Chairman of Foreign Missions work in Zimbabwe, Africa. They have four married children and eleven grandchildren.
Besides his accounting work, church and family responsibilities, Duane was a member of Bethany Kiwanis and Downtown Kiwanis, serving terms as treasurer and board member. He also served as director of their Special Olympics Committee one year. Duane was a member of the American Institute of CPA's and the Oklahoma Society of CPA's where he served on their Health Care Committee. He also was a member of HFMA(Health Care Financial Management Association) where he served on various committees as well as being selected Vice President and President.
Twenty three years ago, Duane and Mary started a private camp on their farm north of Crescent. They have gradually developed it primarily for families and teens from various Churches of Christ in the Central United States. They have attendance varying from an average 250 t 400 each summer. Duane loves children and teens and works tirelessly to try to make opportunities for them to learn of Christ, experience the outdoors, try their hand at good old fashioned hard work and have lots of fun. As Director of Cedar Creek Camp for Youth, Duane ahs made a tremendous commitment of time and money to make a difference in the lives of hundres of teen every summer.
Duane C. Cutter has been described as one of the most dedicated Christian men you will ever meet. His legacy for future generations is one of integrity, honesty, hard work, generosity and a genuiine concern for the welfare of others.
