Dean Myers
Class of 1962
Dean Myers graduated from Crescent High School in 1962 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Trade and Industrial Education. He became a certified Manufacturing Technology Engineer. Dean did post-graduate work at the University of Central Oklahoma to accomplish a principal's certificate and then completed the national superintendent's examination. He obtained a pilot's license in 1965. He has continued to be a life-long learner.
Dean taught at the Oklahoma City Skills Center in Oklahoma City until he became a member of the Oklahoma State Department of Vocational Education staff (1977-19870 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In 1988 he became the Director of Adult Education for the Northwestern Area Vocational Technical School in Alva, where he developed the automobile restoration program.
In 1997 Dean was hired as the Executive Vice President of the Oklahoma Sheet Metal Contractor's Association in Oklahoma City. He worked with legislative initiatives as a registered lobbyist, participating at the state and national level. He served in numerous leadership roles for the South/Southwest Sheet Metal Contractor's regional meetings. Dean promoted Oklahoma by helping to organize regional and national meetings and conferences in Oklahoma City. He served on the board for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Oklahoma Paint Horse Association, the Central Oklahoma Pinto Horse Association, the Logan County Industrial Authority and the Logan County Medical Center Board of Trustees. During his tenure on the medical board, Crescent was able to secure a new building for the health clinic. In 2008, he was selected as the George Nigh Outstanding Association Executive of the Year by the Oklahoma Society of Association Executives.
As a teenager, Dean rented land from his uncle to farm and raise cattle. He has continued to maintain a farming and livestock operation in Crescent. In retirement, he has renewed his interest in horses and has an equine business to breed and show paint horses. In 2010, he served as President of the Central Oklahoma Pinto Horse Association. That same year, he had a filly that ranked in the "top ten in the world" in halter. He has assisted 4-H, FFA and university students in Texas and Oklahoma to participate in the equine industry.
Dean participates in the Crescent 4th of July parade, does volunteer service for the Crescent Volunteer Fireman and serves as treasurer of the Crescent Alumni Association. He is a member of King Arthur's Court (better known as the round table) which meets each morning at Kelly's Cafe in Crescent to scrutinize local, state, national and global issues.
Dean resides on a farm northeast of Crescent with his wife of 46 years, Cheryl Reece Myers. They have three children: Deidre Myers and Julie Myers of Oklahoma City, and Aric Myers of Crescent. His Great-grandfather, George Wilson, settled in Oklahoma as a pioneer and his descendants have contributed for years to the Crescent community.
