Denise Owen Farleigh, M.D.
Class of 1967
Dr. Denise Owen Farleigh is truly a distinguished alumna of Crescent High School where she
graduated in 1967. She was a National Merit Finalist and attended Oklahoma State University as
a regent's scholar receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology in 1971. She took her
internship in Diagnostic Radiology and her residency in the University of Health Center in Oklahoma
City where she was certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1976.
Dr. Farleigh is
a diagnostic radiologist at Providence Alaska Medical Center and Providence Imaging Center. Her
primary focus has been breast cancer, mammography and reaching women regardless of their financial,
cultural or geographical barriers.
She has been a pioneer in Alaska in tele-medicine, providing
diagnostic radiology to several smaller hospitals. She serves as the only certified physicians' trainer
for stereoptic biopsies in Alaska.
Dr. Farleigh has been featured in Alaska tevision, attends
nationwide conferences and meetings and speaks in efforts to provide early detection of cancer among
unserved women.
Her husband, Randy Farleigh, is an Anchorage attorney in civil and maritime law.
Her son, Nathan Cook, is a student at the University of Alaska.
Hobbies of the family include
sailing, travel in the South Pacific, scuba diving in tropical waters, needlepoint and gardening
with a wish for longer summers.
