Col. Robert J. Dzur
Class of 1959
Robert J. (Bob) Dzur graduated from
Crescent High School in 1959. He received Bachelor of Science Degrees in Industrial Arts
Education and Aerospace Science. Bob has a Master's Degree in Business Administration from
Chapman University, Orange, California. He is listed in the 1963 Who's Who in American Colleges
and Universities, completed Squadron Officer School, Armed Forces Staff College and the Industrial
College of the Armed Forces. He is currently working on a second Master's degree in Industrial
Technology at Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas.
Bob began his distinguished career military career in 1964 as a Second Lieutenant
in the United States Air Force. He was promoted to Colonel, January 31, 1985.
Col. Dzur's military decorations and awards are numerous; Legion of Merit, Bronze Star,
Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam
Service Medal with eight stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm and Republic of
Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Bob served as a charter member of the North Hill United Methodist Church, Minot, North
Dakota, Sunday school teacher and funds chairman for the Langely Air Force Base Chapel. He is
an active member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Air Force Association and the Retired Officers'
Association. He is also a member of the Kiwanis, Civil Air Patrol, Toastmaster, United Way,
Jaycees, serving as an officer of committees and a charter member of the Cibiolo Valley Jaycees.
Through the years, Bob has volunteered many hours to young people, serving as a member of the
Parents, Teachers and Students Association, a Cub Scout Master, member of athletic boosters' clubs,
swimming and football official and junior golf instructor. Bob has a special talent for motivational
speaking. He was Texas Speak Up winner and is invited to be the featured speake at graduations,
professional meetings, conferences and conventions.
Now retired from the Air Force, bob is a graduate instructor at Southwest Texas State
University, San Marcos, Texas, where he teaches Engineering Design Graphics, Building Construction
Systems and Building Site Organization. He assists in the building of outdoor playhouses, which
are raffled with the proceeds going to charities providing housing for low-income families.
Bob is married to the former Patricia E. Hammer of Minot, North Dakota. Pat is certified
in Special Education. The Dzurs live in Garden Ridge, Texas. They have two children, Robert, who
works in La Paz, Bolivia and Roxann, a graduate assistant student in Health Research.
Bob's father, the late James G. Dzur, was a long time CHS math instructor and principal. James
acted as superintendent of CHS while Keats McKinney served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Dzur retired and was honored in the 1963 annual with his picture and a poem which expressed
the students' love and admiration.
