Dr. Dick Gregory
Class of 1965
In 1977 Dick Gregory received his Ph.D. from the College of Public Health,
University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. He is currently serving as Regional Manager for the
Missouri State Department of Mental Health. In his Region, he directs funds and staff that are used
to treat an estimated twenty-three thousand Missourians who suffer from serious and persistent
psychiatric disabilities. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri,
Kansas City School of Medicine, where he is involved in training programs at the Doctorate level in
psychiatry and psychopharmachology including fellowships in forensic psychiatry. For sixteen years
prior to these appointments, he held similiar positions with the Oklahoma State Department of Mental
Health and University of Oklahoma Health Science Center School of Medicine and the School of Public
Health.
Dr. Gregory has been a very active member of the National Institute of Mental Health and has
published more than thirty scientific articles dealing with psychiatric, drug and alcohol services.
Due to his recognized expertise, he has been sought out by national mental health organizations and
given numberous presentations.
His community efforts have been spent in furthering a vast array
of community based organizations that serve one and a half million Missourians within the region. He is
actively involved with the Greater Kansas City Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the Metropolitan Mental
Health Association and the Local Investment Commission, a statewide gubernatorial sponsored program
with communities to aid families and children who are at high risk for health, social and economic
dysfunctioning. This effort is targeted through schools, grades kindergarten through twelve.
