Commander Jeremy M. Johnston, USN
Class of 1996
He grew up in Crescent and is a proud member of the graduating Class of 1996. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was trained as an Engineering Laboratory Technician. In 1999, while serving aboard the USS Maine (SSN 741) (Gold), he was selected for an NROTC scholarship. He graduated from Jacksonville University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics. Following his Junior Office tour, he earned a Master of Science in Operations Research from Naval Postgraduate School in 2009.
Commander Johnston's initial sea tour as a Division Officer was aboard the USS Nebraska (SSBN 739) (Gold), and he completed four strategic patrols. The USS Nebraska is a ballistic missile submarine capable of launching nuclear warheads, and it is a "key element" in the deterrence of a nuclear strike. He served as Engineer Officer on USS Olmpia (SSN 7730). He completed a Western Pacific Deployment aboard each fast attack submarine and each earned a Battle Efficiency "E" Award. The Battle "E" is awarded to the submarine in the squadron that is deemed most ready for combat throughout the year.
Ehile on shore duty, Commander Johnston has served on the staff of Commander, Submarine Sqaudron Three and Seven as the Squadron Engineer. His last shored duty, he was assigned as the Nuclear Power Officer at Commander , Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
On February 14, 2019, Commander Johnston began his command of the USS Seawolf (SSN21), a nuclear powered fast track submarine with capabilities that no other submarine in the fleet possesses, stationed at Naval Base Kitsap. The USS Seawolf (SSN 21) is regarded as the deepest, fastest and quietest submarine in the U.S. Navy.
During his naval career, he has also been awarded three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals and three Meritorious Service medals.
Commander Johnston is the son of Cyndi and Jerry Johnston of Crescent, Oklahoma and is married to the former Miss Summer King of Crescent. They have three children: Alexander, Christopher and Marielle. They all reside in Gig Harbor, WA.
