Marjorie J. Patmon
Class of 1960
Attorney Marjorie Patmon was a Crescent High School graduate in the class of 1960. She obtained a
Bachelor of Science degree from Central State University, a Doctor of Jurisprudence, J.D. from the
University of Oklahoma and a Masters of Law from Emory University, Decatur, Georgia.
She was the
first black graduate from the Graduate Tax Law Program at Emory, the eighth black graduate in Law from
OU and the first woman to be appointed General Counsel of the Oklahoma Tax Commission. During that time,
she established the first position of administration judge at the Oklahoma Tax Commission and drafted
the first procedural rules. She also established the expanded Sales Tax Code for the state.
Attorney Patmon has worked with the state legislature and Governors Boren, Nigh and Walters in the interest
of tax reform, women's rights, the disabled and job opportunities for young disadvantaged persons.
She is at present in private practice in Oklahoma City. Marjorie is a member of the St.Charles
Catholic Church, the National Black Catholic Congress, United Way, Urban League, Metro YMCA and a
den mother for financially depressed Cub Scouts.
Among her many honors are Personalities of the
South, Outstanding Young Women of America, Who's Who in Black America, Key to the City of Detroit and
Honorary Member of Zeta Phi Beta, one of the oldest Greek organizations for black women in America.
Attorney Marjorie Patmon, one of seventeen children in her family, has always been a diligent worker
and has excelled in her many endeavors.
