Alfred Rigdon
Class of 1950
Alfred Rigdon served two years in the United States Air Force Security Service
with a clearance to handle top secret materials. He was stationed near London, England.
Alfred served with the U.S. Postal Service for thirty-five years, starting as a substitute clerk
and retiring as the Postmaster of Crescent in 1990. He was very active in the Oklahoma Postmasters
Organization. Her served in many offices in that organization and as President in 1990. He was
elected President of the Retired Postmasters of Oklahoma in 1994 for a two-year term. He was chosen
Outstanding Retired Postmaster in 1995.
Alfred has farmed all his life. The Crescent Lions Club selected him as the Outstanding Farmer of the Year in
1995.
Serving the community has been very important to Alfred. He has been a member of the
Crescent Lions Club for thirty-five years, serving twice as President as well as many other offices
in the club. He is also chairman of a State Lions committee.
Alfred has served multiple terms as Worshipful Master of the Crescent Masonic Lodge. He has been
the Service Officer of the American Legion Post #200 for many years. He is an active member of the
drill team and often gives the address at the Memorial Day services.
He served on the Crescent
Board of Education for twenty years.
Alfred is an active Deacon in the First Baptist Church, a
Sunday School teacher and moderator of the business meetings.
According to Alfred, his greatest
accomplishment in life has been his marriage to Juanita Marie Swanson in 1952. They reared four
children and have stayed married over 44 years. His future plans include continued service to the
community and his family.
