Steve Dan Richards
Class of 1960
Steve Richards excelled in high school football as team captain, halfback and quarterback, receiving All-District recognition. After serving in the United States Air Force, he earned his BS in Health and Physical Education with a minor in Biology and an M.Ed. degree.
In 1969, he began teaching and coaching at Kingfisher High School. This move began his successful career as head football coach in many towns in and around Oklahoma. He became known as a coach who could successfully rebuild football teams. As head coach at Crescent, he led the Tigers to their first State Championship.
In July 2007, Steve will be inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches' Hall of Fame. He is quick to credit the talented and outstanding athletes and the support of his assistant coaches with his success, 177 wins in 22 years.
Steve still has a heart for young people and athletics, coaching Pee Wee football teams and serving on the Crescent Sports Complex committee.
He and his wife Susanne, are members of the First Baptist Church in Crescent and they recently celebrated their 44th anniversary. They have three children, who all have their teaching degrees. They are also blessed with ten grandchildren.
