Capsule: After the introduction of KDYs Escort Carrier into the Imperial Navy, it was found that if attacked, even by a minor capital ship assault, the ship could not effectively defend itself without a capital ship escort of its own. To rectify this problem, the Empire sent out a contract for a fleet carrier to replace KDYs Escort Carrier and for use in smaller taskforces that lacked Star Destroyer support. Surprisingly a small company called Colonial won the contract to produce their Battlestar class Fleet and Escort Carrier. The design was so well liked that several governments also ordered Battlestars along with the two new starfighters that Colonial had recently began producing. With 15 turbolasers and 10 Concussion Missile Launchers, the Battlestar could defend itself from all but the largest capital ships. Also, with 20 Quad Laser turrets, the Battlestar could defend itself from concentrated starfighter attacks as well. The Imperial Battlestar can carry a full Tie wing (72 fighters) making it the equal to both KDYs Escort Carrier and Imperial Star Destroyer for Fighter capabilities, while also able to carry 18 additional craft. Non-Imperial Models can carry a full wing standard starfighters (36) making the equal to any pre-Empire designed capital ship. Unfortunately for Colonial though, many people in the organization were not pro-Imperial and after an incident, in which two complete Battlestars (loaded with full complements of Colonials Viper and Asp starfighters) were stolen by the Rebel Alliance, the Empire took control of Colonial and handed the designs of all three ships (Asp, Battlestar, and Viper) to KDY. Colonial had built 21 Battlestars (12 for the Empire, 7 for local governments, 2 stolen by the Rebel Alliance) and KDY has already built 17 exclusively for the Empire. Continued production of this vessel will definitely cause trouble for rebel raids on Imperial shipping convoys.
