Amazing Turtle Facts
How hard is a turtle's shell? Did you know that a full grown turtle's shell is so hard that not even a car can kill the turtle in the shell if it got run over? Well, it's true! This happened before when a turtle had wandered onto a highway. With some help form a veterinarian, the damages on the turtle shell healed.
In the wild, birds of prey hunt turtles. Their shells are far too hard to crack, so the birds use strategy. They fly very high in the sky and drop the turtle. When the turtle hits the ground, its shell will crack. But this method does not always work, and it may take a few times before the shell cracks.
Not all turtles have shells that are hard, though. Baby turtle's shells are so soft that predators just eat the the turtle and shell together! The same goes to the soft-shelled turtle, who is shaped like a pancake and is also soft. Since soft-shelled turtles live deep in the water, not many predators can get to them.
