Little
Angels
When God calls little children to dwell with Him above
We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love
For no heartache compares with the death of a small
child
Who does so much to make our world seem wonderful
and mild
Perhaps God tires of calling the aged of his
fold,
So He picks a rosebud before it can grow
old.
God knows how much we need them, and so He
takes but few
To make the land of Heaven more beautiful to
view
Believing this is difficult still somehow we must
try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be
"Goodbye."
So when a little child departs, we who are left
behind
Must realize God loves children, Angels are hard
to find.
~Author Unknown~
"Afghans for Angels" is an organization
made up completely of volunteers who make and distribute baby blankets to
local hospitals to give to parents who have suffered the loss of their infant
through miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death.
The loss of a child is a totally devastating event in a parents life.
The founder of this Chapter has found that no parent is ever prepared for
such a tragedy. When her granddaughter was taken only minutes after her birth,
we realized that the parents of the child, more than ever in their lives,
needed something to hold on to. While talking with the Medical Staff at the
Hospital where her granddaughter was born and held for those precious few
minutes, we have learned that there are many instances where babies are born
to be angels. We have learned that caring and supportive services are of
great importance to the parents during this difficult time. That is why the
CHANDA REANN Chapter of
AFGHANS FOR ANGELS was founded.
Our Afghans for Angels are placed lovingly around these infant angels
when they are held by their families for the brief time in which bitter sweet
hellos and sad good-byes are said. The parents are given these afghans to
take home along with the few but precious memories of their little one. In
their times of sorrow, just having something soft to hold is often comforting.
Through our sources, we have learned that these grieving parents are quite
touched by the fact that people they have never met cared enough to make
something so beautiful and special for them and their child. It is our belief
that anything that can be done to help these families, should be done.
HOW YOU CAN
HELP
"Afghans for Angels" is always looking for more volunteers to help create
these blanket gifts. If you can knit, crochet, quilt, or creatively decorate
purchased blankets, we would love to have your help! Most of all, we need
your help to get the word out! The more volunteers we have, the more hospitals
(and families) can benefit from our serivces. Please help us to help
others.
HERE ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS IN MAKING "ANGEL
AFGHANS"
Please make all blankets in baby colors. The average size of an "angel
afghan" is about 2 foot square. Blankets are needed in every size from the
tiny, preemie-sized 12 X 12 inch size all the way up to full size baby blankets.
Any extra special touches are welcome. This is what will make each "angel
afghan" so unique.
