Isaac

Isaac had flocks and herds he ploughed the land and grew corn he was rich. and even moved to more fertile country when famine came. Due to his wealth people became envious, they even stopped up his well so that his flocks and herds might die. Isaac prayed to God for his protection and set himself to dig other wells .God, appeared to him in the midst of his troubles, saying:
Sojourn in this land and I will be with thee and unto thy seed I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swear unto Abraham thy father ;
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of the heaven and will give unto thy seed all these countries ; and in thy seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed . (Genesis 26: 1-5;)

In 1858 B.C.E.when Isaac was 60 years old.Isaac, Rebekah, (Genesis 24:1-67;) his wife who he loved tenderly for twenty years, gave birth to twins, Esau and Jacob their only children. In her pregnancy, Rebekah was distressed by the struggling of the twins within her womb, which,
Jehovah explained, were the beginnings of two opposing nations that, contrary to custom, the older would serve the younger. Accordingly, the second-born Jacob was holding the heel of Esau at their birth; hence the name Jacob, meaning "One Seizing the Heel." (Genesis 25: 22-26; Romans 9:10-12;)

These two boys were very different in character Isaac, liked Esau a lot, because he was a good hunter and would bring home food for the family to eat, but Rebekah loved Jacob he was a quiet, peaceful boy. Abraham died in 1843 B.C.E at 175 years of age, when the twins were 15 years old, so the boys would have had an opportunity to hear of God's covenant directly from the lips of their grandfather as well as their father. (Genesis 22:15-18;)

Jacob appreciated the divine promises, opportunity presented itself legally to purchase from his brother the firstborn's birthright and all that went with it. (Deuteronomy 21:15-17 ) One day when Esau was very hungry he gave up his privilege as the grandson of Abraham to his birthright for a dish of food . (Genesis 25: 29-34 ) "Esau despised the birthright," and so the sale was made quickly and sealed with an oath. Reasons enough why Jehovah said, " Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." (Romans 9:10-15; Malachi 1:1-3 ).When Esau was 40 years old he married two Hittite women which really displeased his parents

When their father Isaac was an old man, and his eyes were dim, he called Esau to his side, and told him to take an arrow and go out and shoot venison and return to him with the meat, that he might lay his hands upon his eldest son and bless him. (Genesis 27: 1-29;)

Rebekah heard these words, and after Esau had gone she whispered to Jacob that he should go and kill two kids, and she would make meat of them, and he should carry it to his father and receive the blessing.
Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
my father will touch me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver.

Legally, Jacob knew, he was entitled to act as the firstborn of Isaac, there could be no doubt that Jacob was entitled to the blessing before the birth of the twins, Jehovah had said to Rebekah: " The older will serve the younger." (Genesis 25:23 ; 25: 29-34;).

Then Rebekah dressed him in Esau's clothes, and put the skins of animals on his arms and neck.. Jacob carried the meat to his father, and his father asked

Who are thou, my son? :

I am Esau thy firstborn: I have done according as thou badest me . Arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me

And Isaac said to his son
How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son?

Because the Lord thy God brought it to me.

Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee; may son, whether thou art my very son Esau or not. The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau. Art thou my very son Esau ?

I am .

Thus Jacob received the blessing. Esau's then returned to his father who said "Who art thou?" And he said, " I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau." And Isaac trembled, and said, " Who? Where is he that hath taken venison and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? Yea, and he shall be blessed." When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and bitter cry, and said unto his father, "Bless me, even me also, O my father!" (Genesis 27: 30-44;) And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and have taken away thy blessing.

The Bible does not condemn what Rebekah and Jacob did the outcome was that Jacob received the blessing. Esau became angry with Jacob, he was so angry that he said he was going to kill him. Rebekah persuaded Isaac to let Jacob go to her brother Laban, in search of a wife. Isaac further blessed Jacob and specifically said: " And God Almighty bless thee and make thee fruitful, . . . and give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee: " (Genesis 28: 3- 4; compare Hebrews 11: 20.)

The Bible states clearly the lesson that we should draw from this account, warning that we should be careful " that there may be no fornicator nor anyone not appreciating sacred things, like Esau, who in exchange for one meal gave away his rights as firstborn." (Hebrews 12: 16.)
