GOLF

Golf, for a long time was almost entirely confined to Scotland, but is now established in England and elsewhere in the world.
Golf, is a game played with clubs and balls generally over large commons, downs, or links, where a series of small round holes are cut in the turf at distances of from 100 to 500 yards from each other, according to the nature of the ground, so as to form a circuit or round.

The clubs are of different uses, and have different names according to the purpose for which they are respectively designed; as the driver, putter, brassey, mashie, cleck, iron, niblick, &c.
The rival players are one on each side, or two against two, in which case the two partners strike the ball on their side alternately.

The object of the game is, starting from the first hole, to drive the ball into the next hole with as few strokes as possible, and so on with all the holes in succession, the side which 'holes' its ball on any occasion with the fewest strokes being said to gain the hole.

GOLF CLOCK

Clock golf is a capital lawn game, and it is useful for the course golfer as it teaches him to judge the strength of his putts and helps him to acquire great accuracy. A set of figures I to XII are arranged in a circle clock-wise, and the larger the circle the better. A hole about twice the diameter of a golf ball should be made in the circle, but not in the centre, so as to get different length putts. The game played from each figure in turn clock-wise, the player who takes the least number of strokes wins. Any number of players may take part in a game. The usual golf putter and golf ball are used.
If four players take part it is usual to have sides, and the aggregate of the two returning the fewer number of strokes is the score.
