Vineta
M. Raley, 91, passed on, on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the William
Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay. Prior to moving to Melbourne FL in
1957, she and her family lived in Oklahoma, California, New Mexico
and Venezuela, S.A. She was a member of the Cushing Oklahoma High School "Class of 1934".
Ms
Raley received her Bachelors
degree from Central State College and her Masters with Honors in
English and Adminstration from Rollins College.
Mrs.
Raleys 32-year public education career included 11 years as an
English teacher in Brevard County junior and senior high schools and
nine years as principal of Indialantic Elementary School. She
received the Florida Star Teacher Award on two occasions. She was
made a John Hay Fellow in 1960, with a scholarship in the Humanities
at Bennigton College, VT.
Mrs.
Raley worked for over 12 years
with Drs. Glenn Bryan and Daniel King, continuing as a volunteer
staff member until the age of 90. An active member of her community,
often serving as an officer in the organizations to which she be
longed, Mrs Raley was also a charter member of the Melbourne chapter
of the American Association of University Women and the Brevard
Symphony Orchestra South Guild.
A
member of Delta Kappa Gamma International (an honorary society for
women educators), the Chamber Music Society, and the Civic Music
Association she also served the City of Melbourne as a member of the
Library Board and the Planning and Zoning Board for several years.
Greatly
devoted to the CK Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the First United
Methodist Church of Melbourne, of which she was member since 1957,
the Prayer Ministry and the Fellowship Sunday School class. To her
many endeavors and interests, she gave generously of her time,
resources, and energy. Her love of family, friends, fellow teachers,
former students and church were the greatest joys in life.
She
enjoyed reading, music, dancing, and the game of bridge. Her
daughters said, Mother loved people from every walk of life and
always saw the good in everyone.
Survived
by daughters, Karen Pearce Raley and Ann Raley Flotte; son-in-law,
Keith N. Flotte, all of Melbourne; granddaughter, Ann H. Peterson,
and great-grand daughter, Emily Souder of Linden, VA.

Memorial
service was held at the First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.,
Saturday, December 1st with Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home
