Celebration of the life
of Richard "Dick" G. Sharp | |||||||||||||
A pilot, race car driver, fisherman and
loving husband Dick was born June 9, 1919
in Cisco, TX, to Howard G. Sharp and Beatrice Campbell Sharp. Graduating
from CHS in 1936 Dick attended
Oklahoma Military Academy for 2 years.
On April 14, 1940 he married Imogene Hart of
Yale, OK.
From 1940 to 1943 he served as a Civilian
Flight Instructor for the U.S. Army Air Corps at the Wilson/Bonfils flying
school in Chickasha, OK In 1945 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and flew
a C-47 over the "Hump" in the India Burma Theater. He later served as a
B-25 Pilot and was promoted to Captain in May 1945. After the war ended he
returned to Tulsa, in February 1946.
Dick and Imogene spent several years
following the racing car circuit in the Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas area.
He was a frequent racer at the Tulsa Speedway, driving a Ford and an
Offenhauser from 1946 until 1949. After a number of racing injuries he
began flagging races for AAA until about 1951.
Beginning in 1951, Dick served as a Sales
Representative for AMP until his retirement in 1981. Dick passed away
MArch 24, 2001 after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife
Imogene Sharp of Tulsa. Cremation Society of Oklahoma, 918
